BMW Display Key

Hi Everyone,

I’m back in the BMW M fold after 14 years! Just ordered a 2022 M4 Comp X drive.

What’s everyone’s take on the Display key, is it a must get or do I pass?

I have one, it's called an iPhone.

Yeah, that was snarky. A display key before smartphones sounds cool. Now? I'm actually looking forward to the opposite, not having to have any key in my pocket and using my iPhone and Apple Watch exclusively. The current implementation of this technology might make this too cumbersome, but I'm going to try.

Not sure why you'd want an even bigger key?

Big pass for me. I considered it for a while, but I got it in my X5, never used and didnt even removed the plastic covers.
Too bulky to get in you pocket without noticing, plus, it cant be attached to your traditional home or job keys.
Not to mention that they only give you the car with one standard key, not the two standard ones plus the display one.

I wish there was an even smaller key. I wish the credit card key worked like a normal key I could keep in my wallet. That digital key is huge.

I received a display key with my X3MC and it's sat in my drawer ever since I drove it home from the dealership. It has no means to attach a key ring, it's big, and the phone app does everything it does.

BMW all but makes you promise, when you configure the digital key, "do you understand you need to carry two keys, check yes to acknowledge, you need to carry 2 keys." Makes it sort of useless. You can try it, but I think it's just warning you that hey, it may either come disconnected, or if your battery dies, you're stranded.

The credit card key opens the door and starts the car, what else does it need to do?
