Body panel composition

Obviously the roof is CF but what is the material used in every other panel?

I believe the hood (and maybe some portions of the fenders) are aluminum, but the rest is stainless steel.

I understand there is a lot al aluminum used throughout the car to reduce weight.

Carbon steel is used for body panels. Only some parts including exhaust is stainless steel.

Wait so only the hood is aluminum? I would think given the price, the competition and the history of the m3 that at least the trunk and the fenders and the doors would be aluminum as well.

The competition is much heavier. CanAutM3 and a few others were critical on the lack of weight saving measures deployed on this generation and many surmised it was due to the competition, specifically the C63S, all being well over 4,000 pounds.

Thank you. Unfortunately the car hasn't been delivered yet and I figured it would be improper to take a magnet to the one in the show room.

Yes, exactly as I stated in my previous post. There have been many statements to this effect by BMW since before the cars were even released, and continuing up to the present. In addition, many people here on the forum have just had to try it for themselves over the past year, and to a person they have found aluminum not steel. I myself had to give away my old magnetic track roundels, and switch to reusable vinyl stick ons instead. Unfortunately, reusable does not mean forever.
