The option to purchase this was available to me last week. Now it has disappeared from my Connected Drive Store. Very strange.

This is their very surprising response given that people on this forum have reported buying it and then actually using it with a manual transmission car!?!?!

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting BMW Assist Customer Care.

This communication was sent out to some customer/vehicles that were not in fact eligible for this feature. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The Remote Engine Start feature is available for purchase on most model year 2019 and newer vehicles with an automatic transmission, a 4 or 6 cylinder internal combustion engine, and an active ConnectedDrive account linked to the vehicle.

Should you have further questions or need additional information, you may reply directly to this e-mail. Our days of operation are Monday-Friday; 8:30 AM-5:30 PM EST.
Thanks for sharing

Not quite sure what it means.

not eligible

It fcking worked!

Any of you guys who had it activated some time ago, do you still have it?

yes it doesn't try to start, tells you the car does not meet the necessary conditions to remote start.

I mean sort of, the car will bother you constantly as far as I know, and anytime the car goes in for anything the service department will want to update it.

you can go in the data privacy settings and disable remote software update from there, then it will not prompt you and the ability to check for updates will be disabled.

of course that won't prevent the dealer from updating it.

For now it seems like it.

At least till the next software upgrade.. unfortunately it is more likely ppl losing it, than others getting it

I was one of those that was able to get remote start on my 2021 G80 6MT. I got a call from BMW saying they made a mistake and want me to take an update to uninstall and they will refund my purchase price. I have been using it for several months now and it works fine. No issues with it. I turned off software upgrades for now and had it in to dealer for seat belt retractor recall couple weeks ago. The dealer did not update my software. If you have it and want to keep it, you can, but I think they would not be liable now if something goes wrong. I keep mine in neutral with parking brake engaged and it just works.

I don't see why they couldn't just get their lawyers to write something up to sign off on and just offer it.

Blah blah risks of leaving the car in neutral on a hill… etc etc etc

Not being in neutral is not an issue. It doesn't even try if you send a remote start request. It just fails to start. Not sure about a hill, but if I parked on a hill, I would leave it in gear 100% and it would ignore a request in gear. I don't get it either. I can keep it, but they have disabled my car from any remote idrive updates until I do it. Fine with me software works fine as is.

Presumably lawyers had already signed off on it in the first place when they implemented the feature. Perhaps there were safety issues with it in the real-world (though you'd think we would have heard of them)... but trying to neuter a sold capability is extremely irregular. Don't think I've ever heard of this kind of thing before.

I bought it and got a call from head office. They forced me to go to the dealership or lose my warranty and they removed it.

They threatened you to have it removed??
Wow. A little extreme, don't you think, BMW?

They told me there was a slight chance that the car could start with it in gear, they have to do more testing, and they might bring it to market. I highly doubt they will bring it back, I hope I'm wrong.

I know this is a bit of an old thread...and quite the rollercoaster of a read from page one. I live in FL so very interested in the remote start feature.

Tried looking for M3 Sedan manual online but I can't seem to find the owners manual for the 6MT, just the auto.

Is it still not available to 6MT owners or has it been straightened out and can be purchased?

I'm pretty sure it's long gone. Some 2021's had it enabled, but a subsequent software update disabled it.

im still holding on to mine with updates disabled in the car. BMW corporate called a few times and then gave up and just refunded the purchase eventually. it still works perfectly and i like having the option available.
