Reason Not To Lower?
I'm new to the discussion about lowering, but I love a car with a smaller gap and a "low stance"!
Are there reasons not to lower a G80 AWD? Are there any risks to the integrity of the BMW suspension system? Or risks of excess or abnormal tire wear? Or, if using the car in winter conditions are there issues? I may be over thinking this, but wondering if anyone has had issues we should think about? Thanks |

Speed bumps Steep driveways High strung feel at all times Curbs Dips in the road All these things become factors when you lower your car. "Is it worth it?" Is a question you need to ask yourself. I say yes |

one of the reasons not to lower is the quality and comfort of the ride if the kit you got is too aggressive.
Im running MSS lowering kit, it's not the most aggressive, and it's perfect for what I am looking for. For daily drivers, i recommend MSS or KW adjustable kits.

I see some kits are adjustable which might be good for me, if I drop too much at least I can make adjustments. This is a very helpful discussion for me, thanks! |

The roads and streets I travel on a (near) daily basis are overdue for reconstruction -- and getting it in Summer 2022, 2023 and/or 2024. There's also the matter of deep snow out where we live. So ride comfort and ground clearance are priorities for me .. and I for one am fine with the stock look. (Maybe it's because I'm surrounded by pickup trucks with lift kits.)

I am looking at H&R and AST but I'm on the fence about lowering the car. I take a lot of road trips and drive through tiny towns with old roads. I hate the front wheel gap, but the back is okay.
I'm gonna wait until I put my 20" wheels in all four to make a decision.

Running the KW has kit on mine. Perfect drop for me while still retaining a near factory feel.

Not sure on actual measurements. It's currently set at the lowest recommended front setting and the rear is at the highest setting.

I have been posting pics of both my cars (G80s) since May when they were dropped (Blue May AR Sept). I do have great roads though and have always lowered my cars (over 30 plus). The G8X out of all them is absolutely one of the best responding cars to spring adjustments coupled with a brilliant damper setup. Obviously when Ive lowered cars with magnetorheological dampers where things are sublime but the G8X will not let you down.
I go for a more aggressive drop but getting any type of HAS set up will allow for fine tuning. Only the Vettels on the board will claim that lowering the car will cause incredible loss in performance LOL. You will be just fine in the real world and gain a ton of form vs the OEM 4x4 look. MSS HAS Kit (used the same one for both cars) H&R 15mm spacers square

when these cars are new alot of the first owners will say that it will ruin the car and that it isnt what BMW intended. Youll be told itll void the warranty and that the BMW Gods will strike lightening down upon you. All in all just like any other car it responds well to being lowered and if youre up for it you should enjoy your car the way you want.

I think the main issues have been covered but I will add if you lower the car excessively you will wear out the shocks quicker.
I prefer the HAS kits, not for the adjustability but the additional rear spring makes a difference. I find the rear of the car rides perfectly but there is no doubt the front is a little more harsh I have the MSS on full low on the front, which probably isn't low enough visually if you ask me, but it does ride very well and I haven't had any issues with speed bumps. I think the lower stance with additional spacers makes a massive difference to the look of the car. I would say go ahead on balance, it seems like you're aware of the pit falls and not going to be lowering super aggressively which is the way to go for a daily driver |
