Exhaust - Light Modification
Hello all,
Quick question for the more well-versed out there: What is a quick and fairly inexpensive way to make my exhaust 20 to 40% louder? I don't necessarily want to buy new mufflers. Would removing one set of the cats achieve this? Larger down pipe? Any suggestions? Thank you! |

Midpipe is the easiest, lightest, warranty-maintaining way to get more volume. Add in an SST valve controller and it's the perfect amount for most people.
The installation process is unbolting the catback (midpipe + muffler/axleback) from the downpipes under the car, cutting the stock midpipe off the axleback, and installing the new midpipe, bolting it to the stock downpipes, and using clamps onto the stock axleback. This does not cause warranty issues as it's a similar procedure for BMW installing the M Performance Exhaust (they cut the axleback off from the midpipe in the same place) If you want to maintain your warranty but also not change out the muffler, a swap to a single midpipe (stock downpipes and axleback) and a valve controller is the perfect way to get more volume but also allow you to still close everything up and get it quiet when you want it to be. Here's an explanation I gave before: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...4#post30909864 And here's a satisfied customer after taking my advice lol: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=31 |

Big single midpipe is all you need. Lowering the tone increases the sound volume. If you want more then you wire your valves open or install a valve controller.

Single midpipe 100% . If you want more sound add a valve controller and a intake.

What do you think the whole cost of this setup would be? (Including installation - I don't have a lift yet.) |

It’s a very easy DIY that can be done in a driveway. All you need are a few metric wrenches, 13-16mm sockets on a ratchet, and a cheapie AZon exhaust rollie-cutter.
