Environmental regulations predicted and announced could play a role here. As they tighten and get closer to implementation a portion of car buyers will become increasingly skeptical to plunking down big $$$ on ICEs with no electrification. This could explain an earlier launch of the range topping model this time around.

Also, I have a glimmer of hope that it will be in MT. Why? Because BMW understands that this will be an enthusiast car, and nowadays, it is all about the analog aspect. They probably learned from the M3/4 CS with the M2CS. Its all about collectability now. But we shall see...
At 130k it would offer decent value, but I think this figure is optimistic. I speculate it will be above 150k USD.

It's no different than with prior generations. The F8X was revealed in December 2013 and the M4GTS reveal followed less than 2 years later in October 2015.

Expect Similar change and timing for the G82 CSL.
Actually, the F82GTS was revealed in October 2015 with an official launch in April 2016...

That is my guess as well, GT3 real world pricing and performance.

Agree on the pricing. As for performance, I am a little sceptical. We'll have to wait and see for that. They did a hell of a job with the 992GT3 with it weighing less than 3,200lb.

They did, my guess is slightly faster than the 991.2 GT3 but slower than the 992. I don’t think 992 times are out yet but I bet it will be faster than the 991 for sure.

The M4 GTS arrived early in the F82’s product lifecycle. The M4 CSL is the successor to that car under a new name. If it comes in 2022 that’ll be seven years after it’s predecessor, which is plenty of time.

Oh yes they are and it is significantly faster. Porsche wasted no time as they have nothing to be ashamed of:

It's going to be a tough act to follow for the G82CSL

I recall they said the 992 GT3 is ever so slightly faster than the 991.2 GT3 RS around the Ring.

Sub 7min on the hair, yes that’s not going to be easy. I’m not ruling it out due to the S58’s presumed reserves but it will take some work on the chassis to put it mildly.

BMWs avoidance of presenting times and hard data for the G8X and M5CS is really frustrating. It breads suspicions on poor showings and conspiracy theories on hiding the truth. I don’t subscribe to them myself and think both cars will surprise on the positive end but I hate that they don’t let us know. I really applaud Porsche for their openness and early communication whether it’s a 4700 lbs 7 series competitor or a 3200 lbs track car. It pleases the fans and signals that they are a performance brand for performance minded customers. BMW has some shame to carry in this aspect.

To clarify, it's 6:55.34 for the AMS lap that is used for most references (for example, the 7:27.88 of the F82GTS is the AMS lap).

Thanks for clarifying that. Btw. I had the Cayenne in at my favorite P-car Indy shop last Thursday to troubleshoot an oil leak. In the shop they had a 997 GT3RS 3.7 that they had reworked to a 4.1. Man the engineering of these cars The CSL will be a dream for hardcore BMW fans I’m sure, but anyone else is going to have a hard time passing on the P-car if prices are similar. They also had a stock GT3RS 4.0 in for service that the owner just added to his garage for $460k. It’s one of my dream cars but at $460k, no thanks

Agreed, the 4.0 GT3RS is total , but not for that price.

A good friend of mine owns a shop that modifies Porsches and preps race cars. I love going to visit and when he shows me the magic he is doing in his engine shop, where he always has 2 or 3 opened up boxer engine of different generations. They are indeed beautifully engineered masterpieces.

Worth noting 992 GT3 and 991.2 GT3 RS times were both set on Cup 2 R, with the 992 probably getting an updated spec.

991.2 GT3 time was standard N1 spec.

Of course, a lot of the new GT3's 'Ring time improvement comes down to the optional Cup 2 R tires. But Kerns says simply swapping those tires onto the old GT3 wouldn't get you anywhere near the new car's 17-second-per-lap improvement. Even on the less-aggressive Cup 2s, Kern estimates the new GT3 should be "at least" seven or eight seconds quicker than the old GT3, though Porsche hasn't measured official lap times on the standard-equipment tires.

Word is track is faster with some resurfacing in the last couple of years.

With R spec and current track conditions F82 GTS would knock a chunk off, maybe sub-7:20.

So, M should be able to get in the neighborhood. Hope so. Like Porsche and AMG, they can start by signing on to the not effing around plan with Michelin.

Is there any new intelligence around on the existence, timing and expected specs of this model? I'd love for it to have extended fender arches but that's unlikely to happen.

I am #1 confirmed in writing for CSL at my dealer. When it arrives, I will own one. However, I know nothing about it other than my trusted SA tells me they had a meeting about 2 weeks ago confirming it is happening.

Your client advisor is likely not telling the truth.

Anything that happens with special edition models happens at the corporate level and is highly secretive.

The forum is a much better resource for info pertaining to special edition models.

I am 100% certain that if there was actual information to share, and it made its way to the dealers in the form of a meeting, it would have made its way here.

We know there will be one, but that's all. You also don't know how limited it will be and if your dealer will even receive one. Not every dealer got an m3 CS (my car).

frankiebones - I appreciate your skepticism. As to SAs and dealers we should always be skeptical; they lie, a lot. However, he has NO information other than they were told in a sales meeting it was happening but that no other information was being provided. When he receives some he will pass it on to me but likely "months away." He has proven very reliable over the last 12 years. Of course BMW could change its mind and not produce a CSL. So, he made me 1st on the list in the current "likelihood" it is going to happen, as he did with my M4GTS allocation, M2C allocation, and M3 allocation. Hopefully it happens as I would love a badass alternative to Porsche from BMW!!! Not that I do not love Porsches, because I do.

Will you still buy it if it has an msrp of $140k and your CA mark it up another $20k? I would not be surprised if this become the norm. I suspect it will be incredible in every way including the price tag...so maybe worth it but be prepared to write a big check.

I'd pay that MSRP. My dealer will not charge me ADM.
