It wouldn't be a BMW motor if it didn't have either water pump or bearing issues.

Check your vin using the BMW U.K. recall page. Not all cars produced in the date range are affected.
It says no recall but in my BMW FS page it says j have one but redirects me to the main site and it shows me no information. See pics below.

Then again it also hasmy mileage on the car wash wrong. I have 768 miles on my car so there's a bug or something going on.

Considering its only listed between a very narrow time period. It leads me to believe it's not an overall flaw with components of the motor. The 2021 models have been being built prior to this and none are named in the recall.

Hopefully clarification will be provided into next week, it sucks that the information was dropped on a Friday from what appears to be a "leak" and nothing offical from BMW yet.

I'm hoping for the best possible outcome. I know some people were already waiting on their cars, who already had stop sales and now they are hit with this as well.
It's not a leak, and it's official. A dealer tried to sell me an in stock M3 yesterday, I looked up the VIN, saw it was affected by the main bearing issue, told them about the issue, they checked their systems, and their day was ruined as the stop sale was confirmed and they can't sell the vehicle.

I wonder did they know and we're trying to get the cash in the door or would they not have actually been able to sell it if they tried to push it through?!

You gotta go to the U.K. link below. Others say BMW USA shows no recall, but the U.K. site does.

Anyone considering running a tune or piggyback on their car until this is figured out is crazy IMO, as that's instantly warranty voided. Even then tunes are risky business when long term reliability isn't known. If I had one I would just enjoy it stock with no worries, if it blows you get a new engine. It's the owners 4 years from now who could end up really carrying the bag.

Wow. The screen shot that I took from DCSnet yesterday morning and then posted to the f97 fb groups sure has blown up. It's all over fb from the e9x m3 groups to now an 8 page thread here on bimmerpost. 😂

This is why I wait 3-4 years before jumping on a new platform. Something like this always happens like clockwork in year 1 and year 2. I feel like post LCI is the time to buy these cars :/

This is the second time they've recalled an S58 production window for main bearings. Around two years apart too. How did they screw this up again?

Same thought I followed when traded in my F80MT. Went with F87MT instead of G80MT.. there were other reasons as well from personal preference, but in past having had a terrible engine experience for jumping in on new generation within a month of SOP, has put me in group of waiting couple of yrs into SOP.

S58 has been in production for two years now. It's not a new motor

Nope…In no way. No dealer would risk it just to sell one car that will sell itself out of the hundreds they sell a month. Not worth it, BMW will know. In all my years with BMW I have never seen or heard of that happening although I definitely see where someone could think it would happen.

Yep.. true, it's not brand new motor. But from my experience, I no longer get a brand new gen model, especially the performance versions, even if the engine been out there couple of years.

One reason I always wait for the LCI. Most gremlins have been worked out by then.

Soooo, when was the last Motorsport engine that did not have bearing issues?

I guess that's what happens when you take a race engine and try to adapt it to the road and make it last more than a race distance.

I purchased a 2015 Mercedes Vito Van, brand new model (in the US it's a Metris i believe) and I expected to have teething problems. I hadn't even made it home and already no 5th/6th gear, no iPhone compatibility and over the coming months a load of major issues that I won't go into. However, I had already waited several years for the model update and it's for my business.
The LCI updates on the F82 (drivetrain aside) were just BMW holding back things, like way back in the E46 platform (rear LED rear lights as an example, couldn't believe it when I picked up my 2015 M4 and it had bulbs)
My point: I agree if you have the very first Run of a new model you'll likely have issues, but to wait for a year or 2 for LCI model, you might be dead by then.
Sorry, but just like an iPhone, if it does what you want when you buy it great, but already out of date.
We are always going to want the latest thing and the manufactures know that it's business, but sometimes you have to look at the time you'll never get back right?
Still pissed that my first M4 had bulbs for rear lights, but I kicked its arse for 3 years and that's priceless....

With that being said, if cars show up on the site as affected. Then they will stop sale.

What about cars within the dates but showing 0 recall. Would they release it to the buyer?
