Maybe it's just me, SMB was best donned by F82 M4CS when it came out. This colour and that car were made for each other.

It's the red calipers for the "Superman" look that ruins SMB in this photo. Should have stuck with the blue standard M calipers. Toronto red and black sapphire are the only standard colors that red calipers should be spec'd for.

Thanks, you guys have walked me off the "last minute color change" ledge... at least for now. I nearly switched my San Marino to Enzian, but now I am sticking with San Marino, partly because I'm tired of waiting for the car.

My CA was not happy when I asked him about the last minute change, since I just moved to scheduled for production (Week 41!). He insists that changing the color will push it much father back (although BMW genius disagrees).
I suspect that changing from one individual Manufaktur color to an other will delay the build, as the factory needs to paint the body and the exterior plastic bumpers need to also painted be the OEM part supplier for just in time part sequence. Lots of moving parts for a Manufaktur build.

True. Although what stood out in the CS for this colour was the Yellow calipers and the wheels.

Agree, in person this colour is at a whole different level. IMO, Perfect balance between sporty and classy.

That looks superb, what colour interior did you go for your configuration?

I'm on the fence with the black wheels, not a big fan of them personally, like others I think one of the bi-colour options (or maybe even the Orbit grey?) would set this off perfectly.

How in person it resembles MBB? Wonder if it's worth the extra!

SMB is a little darker maybe and has purple in it in certain light conditions, MBB is a little more pure blue I think

Here are my SMB painted reflectors, I tried to make the photo colors match real life as best I could.

I think this better represents SMB. The color is very dynamic.

After months of deliberating color choices, my San Marino M3 is about to go into production. I also chose the bi-color wheels, which I think should help.

Here is my San Marino Blue M340i Performance Edition.
The color is stunning BUT
- the metal flakes are smaller than other paints, hence not the same reflection; looks less metallic until you pay attention to it.
- It is very soft. Is by far the most pretentious and hard to maintain I have ever seen.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "soft"?

The paint surface is physically soft as opposed to "harder" paints. Tends to show marks from light friction and swirl marks more. Almost as if the paint is still a bit wet/tacky and not totally dried. Imagine pushing your nail against the paint and seeing a mark from it.

Audi has a blue (Nogaro) that is extremely soft.y friend had it and swore he got swirl marks from people looking at it. I wonder if it is more common with blue for some reason?

Have you tried using a ceramic coat on SMB?

I'm debating trying one of the easier DIY sprays at home.

Black wheels most of the time look shit on pictures. It is hard to capture them as they look in real life. I'm sure in person this combo looks great.

I don't have one...so no. Haha.

Yes, a true ceramic would likely help significantly.

Short of that, I am switching to Griots Ceramic Spray (lime green spray, they have a couple similarly named) after a few bears of using Hydrosilex. The Hydrosilex worked well, but the Griots simply killed all the other silicone spray products in a couple comparisons I saw. My best friend made the same switch and says the Griots is great, and he swore by Hydrosilex previously.

Something like the Griot's should provide at least some protection from swirls and is very easy to apply. Just be careful to use a good soap and never wipe the paint while in direct sun or dry and you should be ok.

Sorry, the question was directed more at Teutonic or anyone else with SMB. Have you tried ceramic or graphene with SMB paint?

I think I will give the Griot's ceramic a try. I like having a good budget DIY option.
