Agreed...I think theyre trying to match the grille width with the lines on the hood and the resulting shape is just unpleasantly strange. M8 grilles wouldn't work either without changing the hood...oem looks much better to me than any of these alternatives

it is simply not possible to change the front to the better WITHOUT also changing the hood.
The Hood design goes all along with the front grill design, isolate from the fron view only the grill and hood and you see some kind of "tube" is formed.

The only way to get a conservative grille on the front is to change the hood.
At this point take the design of the F80 Hood/Bumper with the new lights, done.
Will cost a ton and I have no idea if a thing like this will be approved by TÜV or whatever is in whatever country.
In Switzerland I bet my ass it won't be possible, they are imbeciles and don't let you change a screw without paying a fortune.

Yup. Agree. And so many people are leasing these... I will too. Won't be able to take a chance with something as significant as changing the entire front end under the lease regardless.

We'll know a heck of a lot more in three years. What direction things are going, any changes will likely have been made, and sales numbers will either back up BMW's decisions, or, force their hand toward change. So at least you know, in three years, you either double down, or, move on. With the F80, going from the 2015 to the 2018 was an easy choice. Will be interesting to see what happens with this one!

It would work without changing the hood. Look at the banner image at the top of this page. The grille is obscured in shadow but the hood an its countours are clearly visible. You can't picture a grille similar to the M8 fitting in that space between the hood and the license plate?

Because most of the cars will be leased, the new design as controversial as the factory grille and facia, and even the negative feedback in thread, this design won’t sell enough units to make it a feasible business decision.

Nope, M8 grill will not work with the current hood design. The best you'll get is an X2-like grill. the hood nostrils are too narrow for the M8 grill to work.

Everyone I talked to who's thinking about buying wants to see how the LCIs are going to shake out.

They aren't going to change the girlle at LCI, certainly not make it smaller.

I bet there will be more people putting M3 bumper with big grills on their 3 series than vice versa.

I'm not 100% in love with it, but it's definitely one of best renderings I've seen to remove the big grill.

Gross. If they make this they will cost way too much money and sell like 5 of them.

That’s still the best of the suggested replacements. I have little faith that the aftermarket can match OEM quality and design polish.

I would definitely purchase an LCI that looked like this.

Any chance these bumpers are a reality? If so I'd consider the G80 but the factory front end is a hard pass for me.
