Plastic cover falling off from underside of trunk lid

Hey guys - does anyone else have this issue with the plastic triangle cover falling off from the underside of the trunk? Found it sitting in the trunk floor and the cover will not lock back in place tightly. Just stays loose and falls back out once trunk is shut or go over bumps of the road. The plastic piece has tabs that don’t look broken but not sure if the trunk itself is missing anything. Taking it to dealership tomorrow to get looked at. Wanted to see if anyone could check their G80 to see if I was missing anything.

Shouldn’t fall off but I would just grab some double sided tape (I have a roll of it for auto trim items) and stick it back on. If I didn’t have any tape, I would have the dealer order a new one piece and give me some tape (they will have some) in case me new one doesn’t fit tightly.

Nice color BTW!

picure included. bend that little tab back a little bit and then pop it back in.

Check to make sure the liner is properly seated, it could be pressing down on the release tab and unclipping it. If you can hear a good click and the plastic cover isn’t wiggling around at all, then something is pressing the release. If that’s it, you could also potentially make that top square hole slightly bigger so that even if the liner shifts, it won’t press on it. Just don’t make it so big that it’s too big. Hope that makes sense.

That thing is so insulting.

Quick poll: who knows why it's there and what's actually supposed to be there? I do and it makes me mad.

Nope. Tool kit.

It's had various permutations over the years, but it always was at least a few tools, usually the towing eye, safety triangles, etc. Got less and less over the years. Now it just has a roadside sticker. Why they even have the flap is beyond me.

Then they stopped include the safet triangle unless you did ED.

Oh, so your question was actually rhetorical. My first BMW was a ‘78 320i so I get the tool kit reference.

I replaced mine with the euro part to hold a safety triangle. It’a all about the details. And apologies for the dust, car has been in hibernation for the winter.

Had this exact issue. I couldn’t get it to stay no matter what I did, including trying to bend the tabs a bit. When I went in for an oil change last time I mentioned it and they put some felt on it and it’s stayed in place since. I believe they just wrapped the felt around the bottom “hooks” but have not taken it off to look.

Mine was doing this as well. Sales guy ‘borrowed’ one from a previous year’s model and this one fits. It doesn’t have the sticker on it though.

Mine has been falling off too. The only defect I've experienced with this car so I shouldn't complain, but it is annoying...

Dealership SA ended up bending the tabs and it’s now snug and back on tight. All set!
