Maybe you should share it with your grandkids now when you pick them up from school in your X5?

So completely putting the aesthetics aside (which a bug bra on an M4 in 2023 is going to make people shake their heads and laugh) it's just not a good idea. You want to cover up the intakes and radiator to "keep them clean"... Do you not see the problem with that?
The intakes are what brings air into the engine, and the radiator is what cools the engine down. You want to severely restrict those two things. Clearly you can see why that's just a stupid idea. BMW themselves specifically said the grilles on these cars are so big, because they needed the extra cooling... And you want to compromise that. Imagine someone tells you to go run a mile, but you need to plug your nose and mouth, and you're not allowed to drink water or even sweat to cool off. That's what you'd be doing to your car. And just to add, and I mean this respectfully, but you didn't buy this car to sit in a garage. If you did, that would be one story, and I'd understand wanting it pristine. But seeing as you clearly want to take it on extended drives (in your words) it's not a garage queen. So because of that, wanting to keep the radiator/intake perfect has no purpose, and is just unrealistic. You'll be compromising the performance and cooling ability of the car, which CAN damage it. And if you bring it in to a dealership and they see why, they won't cover the fixes under warranty, as your actions/additions would have been the cause of damage. the radiator and intakes don't need protection from bugs, they need access to air.

I used one of these mesh fabric bug protectors for a road trip in my GT 350. Worked and was simple and safe to install, but they don’t fit anything except domestics it looks like. Maybe a custom job?

I find it interesting that so many people are piling on here and making rude comments to what one man wants to do with his car. It’s his car, he can do whatever he wants to with it. There are countless posts on this forum of people doing things to their cars that I personally wouldn’t do and not to my taste. I’m not personally a fan of a bra, but jeez, it’s a free country. Is this high school ?

Maybe only 1 comment bordering on rude, which across an entire thread on an internet forum ain't too bad. In any case, hopefully my comments weren't seen as rude, and if so, I would certainly apologize. |

Criminal to even think about having one fitted, what's next, wind deflectors and beaded seat covers?

Actually I can totally relate to this, I wouldn't mind some removable temporary protection that I can slap on for autobahn trips in summer and then easily remove/clean/peel off.
I don't know if you ever experienced this, but driving hundreds of miles at 180+ mph on autobahn is a completely different experience in terms of bug splatter. They become literally weapons of mass destruction and are an extreme pain to remove. And I do have full PPF ! At arrival, I have to spend half an hour to remove them ASAP because leaving the car in the sun with this bug splatter just eats through the PPF and etches in and it just looks terrible afterwards. And I wouldn't f*cking care how ugly my car would look while I am going lightning speed on the autobahn, hardly anyone will notice |
