The Porsche owner will still go home in a Porsche, which is a true sports car. M3/4 is a sports coupe/sedan not a true sports car in my book. This is just one metric too which is drag racing off the line.

Doesn't matter if a tuned G8x spanks a Mclaren 720S because at the end of the day the 720S is in a league a few continents away and is a much sexier car as an exotic supercar.

Just checking with the '6MT for life crew', does this change your thinking at all? I suspect a G80 6MT will be behind the Porsche for some of this race?!?!?

What a revelation. A car based on a dedicated sports car platform is more a true sports car than a car that's based off a sedan platform? A McLaren 720S is an exotic supercar? Are you going to tell us in your next post that urine is yellow and the sky is blue? I'm anxiously waiting.

Right, because its a significantly better car in literally everyway outside of having space to put your groceries. Also a 500hp car can barely beat a base 375 hp car on a drag. LOL.

Porsche >>>> all day everyday, stop trying so desperately.

Oh and btw, tesla still owns BMW in drag races.

Cause drag races are stupid for car brands that are touted for their driving feel, and handling.

Leave the drag racing, stop light to stop light racing to the camaros and mustangs...

A 997 4s is weak? Have you ever driven one? Do you care about driving feel? Or are you the guy who tunes a car to the max to race people between stop lights?

This is a great car, and enthusiasts who actually care about driving will all agree.

What a stupid comparison. Who cares if they are the same price? The Porsche is not meant to go fast in a straight line, and the people who buy a Carrera hardly care about "sportiness" (Outside of the guy with the 997 C4S above apparently). At the end of the day the Porsche owner goes home in a Porsche, and the BMW driver goes home in a fast Lexus.

The fact that so many people are buying this car is shameful, meanwhile BMW continues to put trash into the market (electrified 3/4 series). Bastardization of the brand and the people who buy BMWs now are not what they once were.

Why would this change the minds of us manual fans? We know it's not faster to have a manual and hasn't been for some time. I have yet to have a bad day, gotten in an auto/dual clutch/paddle shift car and received the same physical satisfaction of changing through the gears as with a clutch pedal.

Pull a paddle in anger, then do a 2-3 change in anger in a manual car. One is definitely more gratifying than the other physically.

It used to be that the auto was a $2000 upcharge over a manual. I would happily see that reversed and pay $2000 for a manual to make it available. I would purchase an M340i, RWD, 6MT tomorrow if it was available at a cost increase. It's not like BMW don't have the B58/6MT combination already...

The drag race is impressive for the M car no doubt, BMW have definitely been focusing on launch control from the F series that was universally panned. But in the end the G82 is ahead for power/weight as well as peak numbers

No. Yes. No.

Am I supposed to be impressed? What enthusiasts are you talking about? Car enthusiasts or Porsche enthusiasts? You're showing which one you are with your drivel. Who still thinks in this day and age that the Mustang and Camaro are only for drag racing and are the pony cars of yesteryear?

I just don't get this superiority complex. Dude climbs into a 10+ year old car and allover sudden thinks he's a car god. I just can't with these people.

Get ready for real trolls if you buy a G8X. No matter how fast the car is, it's a total piece of shit inside and out from a design perspective. No amount of speed can replace that its last in the segment in looks.

I personally can't wait to see the G8X at meets over summer - very interested to see what kind of person buys this car and hear the rationale for the purchase.

As the owner of the Tesla falls asleep because their car is a one trick wonder and so damn boring to drive. I drove my bosses P100, yes it was crazy fast, but after a few launches I wanted nothing to do with that car.

sadly true. I would get bored with a Tesla after two days. It is really more of a soulless high tech appliance.

I get the enjoyment factor, my question was at what point do you sacrifice performance for that manual shift? There must be a limit.

It occurred to me that the G8x could be the car where going manual is such a departure in performance, that it no longer makes sense.

Not for me. I wouldn't want to drive an automatic/DCT/SMG/PDK/etc. variant of any vehicle. Even my commuter 2021 Toyota Corolla SE is an MT.

Guy owns the ugliest X5 M ever made and has the balls to talk shit on one of the best 911 chassis ever. I never said it was a GT3rs, someone said post a picture of your 911. Which I did. I merely was complying, officer.

Idk what we're even arguing about at this point. Maybe we can race stop lights to end it?

Based on what? Reports are positive about the new manual. I've never had an issue with any BMW manual.
