It reminds me of the 3 series owners doing the same going head to head against the M models.
Because that's how's both of these cars are typically driven.

When an M can embarrass quarter million exotics then you can also yell that they are better on the track or at high speed..no one would care.
Fact is street races are where it happens most of the time, good bad or indifferent it's a fact.

So as others said 140k vs 70k and 70k M rips it a new one, that's damn impressive

Pointless comparo.

Can’t speak for anyone else, but it did not even occur to me to cross shop 911 with BMW or any other non-P model. Like they didn’t even exist. I cross shopped 911 C2 with 911 C2S.

On the other hand, when I wanted an ‘inexpensive daily’ with some performance, M340i checked all the right boxes. Although my fiancé thought I was nuts for not getting a Macan S instead...🤷🏻

I don't get the point of comparing a racing-inspired M car against a base model Porsche (which already isn't a good comparison due to price). Compare it versus a Turbo or GTS or even an S.....pretty sure those models would leave it in the dust.

That's like saying let's race the M5 versus a base Panamera 4.....? Um, OK?

One is a true sports car; the other a sports sedan or coupe (whichever flavor you prefer) which caters to the one size fits all buyers.

A drag race doesn't mean anything. Driving dynamics is what ultimately matters.

BMW owners get so damn butt hurt when their cars are compared to an Infiniti or Lexus; yet they pound their chest whilst beating a base Carrera in a lame drag race. Oh the irony....

I own a BMW; but I don't have an ego issue or a case of blinded brand loyalty that prevents me from calling a spade, a spade.

A Dodge demon would annihilate a G80/82 in a drag race for less money. So is everyone ready to trade in their BMW for one?......therein lies the truth.

Maybe it has to do with the engine power delivery. When F80 came out it was spiky as hell and traction was non existent. Now take a LCI ZCP where they improved a lot the power delivery / diff and slap PS4S on it and it's almost also a non issue. Warm up some cup 2 tires and you hardly get any wheel spin launching the car, so i think it's somewhat mostly fixed but it's not the shipping config unlike this new one.

I think the M4 AWD would compare favourably vs a 911 S or GTS in terms of acceleration. Having said that, you're shifting the goalposts considerably by comparing a $80k car to a $180k 911 turbo. While we're at it, shall we also compare the M4 to a 765LT and the Pista? Heck why not the Chiron

it's true that the M4 has more power compared to the 911, but it's true also that the Porsche has 200kgs (average) less.

both twin turbo.

The S58 is a Monster engine. I Guess the MXdrive versione will reach 3.4 seconds 0-62 mph.

Lol the Demon cost more. You would have to spec out the G82 with a crap load of options to hit the same price point.

I find the comparison totally valid. Most people associate Porsche > BMW whatever the model. This proves that such a blanket statement is simply wrong. You can get more with less $ without the P street cred.

For me personally, the only two cars I consider (every purchase) is a Carrera S and an M3, because they are the only cars in manual I would consider.

Just because a car is much more expensive doesn't always mean it's faster, once again ....worthless comparison.

I wonder which one is faster at laguna. In 2008 the e92 beat a base 911 by 1.1 seconds.

Faster doesn’t mean better. Well maybe just to all these race car drivers all over the roads these days...

Also most Porsche owners don’t have the desire to race light to light on a public road unlike most BMW drivers so this scenario isn’t likely to happen in the real world.

I'm sure the optional $3,800 carbon fiber buckets in your new G80 will look impressive in the rear view mirror of the $56k Tesla Model 3 Performance that just "ripped you a new one..."

It’s actually funny. When Tesla’s rip BMWs a new one, it’s always who cares about 0-60, drag races are lame, it’s all about driving feel, dynamics, track blah blah. Now it’s all the same people going about muh S58 lol.

You and your lot are getting bent out of shape for nothing. What's wrong with people being pleased, happy to see the BMW wins a drag race? It's pure entertainment and especially in this climate we have today, it's a welcomed distraction. Nobody here needs to be schooled as to what Porsche's signify or their capabilities. Many here have either owned Porsche's in the past or aspire to own one. Nobody is crapping on Porsche, BMW fanboys always have mad respect for the 911 perhaps more than any other car.

Too many uptight folks who waltzes in give their 2 cents that nobody cares about. Carwow makes countless drag videos do you also go to their page and rants about how XYZ isn't a drag car. We know M3/M4 nor the 911 aren't drag kings. There's a reason you don't see them competing in drag races professionally. When track vids are posted it's the same drama, people claiming that's not the primary purpose yada yada. I'll tell you what we know the 911 is the track machine since that's it's primary focus but while that's a universal truth. Many buys the 911 as a status symbol, never see a track day. You're more incline to find the lowly BMW owner at track meets than the 911 driver. Y'all need to lighten up. FYI, nobody here cares about Tesla, those who did already left for that camp.
