What I am trying to say is that the S58's cooling improvement is already reflected in the S58's power advantage. It is not "over and above" to help its 'ring time.

I disagree. The paper power gap is the peak power gap under one set of controlled conditions. If one engine fluctuates downwards with larger amplitudes and/or more frequently during a fastest lap the average power advantage is larger than the paper gap.

OK, too much technical speculation here for me to argue further.

The improved internal cooling of the S58 looks to be facts not speculation.

That this cooling will improve the G8X 'ring lap time over and above the stated power increase is too much speculation for me to debate.

It’s not much to debate it’s a technical advancement of the G8X that could impact the ring time. Let’s leave it at that. This whole thread is a bunch of facts leading to rampant speculation on the result from a complex array of parameters and how well they are working dynamically in the G8X during a Nordschleife lap. The range of the possible outcome is quite large.

Hmmm, not sure I agree here. Yes, this thread is all about speculation. But what you're doing here is way over the top to be meaningful.

Let’s see what the time gap end up to be and see if it seems excessive before we make that determination. If your guess is spot on, I have no problem conceding.

Does anyone know what the weight difference will be for a base model with 6MT/RWD vs the competition model w AWD/auto? I doubt it will be enough to negate the positive track results of AWD/ZF combo...but just curious. I'd have to imagine the base would be a couple hundred lbs lighter ...?

A couple of hundred is the right estimate IMO.

We know that 6MT to 8AT is 50lb on the G8X and AWD on other BMW models is 140~150lb, so 200lb is in the right ballpark. Also figure that an 8AT AWD drivetrain will have a fair bit more rotating inertia and loss than a 6MT RWD one, so the 2 might be closer than we think.

That's what I'm thinking too. With a good driver and some nice tires I'm sure the RWD 6MT wouldn't be too far off as long as the power can be put down. I'm sure there's a pretty effective traction control system now that hopefully isn't too intrusive. On some of the 6MT nurburgring test vids I can see the rear end just ever so slightly step out - but it's not out of control or full on drift out of every corner. I think it's going to make for a fun drive if you aren't concerned with every tenth of a second

The difference can also be bigger than you think on the track and street. I’d be careful to say they will perform similarly.

As for fun to drive, if you are a 6 MT die hard there’s no reason sweating over the performance difference, is there?

I think that's a good question, especially over a large track like the Ring. Does the power advantage outweigh the extra weight, the automatic tranny, and the crappy brakes? I would say no, but you never really know. The G8X is what 6 or 7 years newer, you would think that with the pace technology advances, it should be faster around the track. I hope to be surprised. It would be cool to see the M3 the leader of the pack again.

Totally agree. This is a 4 door daily driven car. At the end of the day, it REALLY doesn't matter how many seconds the car is slower around some random race track driven by a stranger. Its about driving enjoyment.

Fo an apples-to-apples comparison, you would need to use 7:34 for the F82 GTS time, as all others are AM&S/SA supertest times.

Exact, thx. I think the best is to remove it. I also added M2cs supertest time.

Nice! The 992 C2S is 7:30.41 and the C8 is 7:29.90 for comparisons. For a 4 door family sedan that can go around the track just as fast as those dedicated track cars, that's pretty impressive.

Now it begs the question... whether the xDrive version will be slower or faster

7:25 or so would be close to 991 gt3 speeds, would be impressive.
