BMW Individual CHALK Inquiry

Hey guys,

I’m planning on getting an LCI G80 and really want to go with my favorite car color…Porsche chalk.

My dilemma is finding out that BMW chalk isn’t quite the same, at least that’s what I’ve heard from some…while others have said it’s identical.

The paint codes are different. I’ve looked and looked trying to find a side by side with no luck. On top of that the color is really tough to capture on camera. From pictures it seems like BMW chalk is lighter and more of an off-white while Porsche chalk is a little darker and creamier. Really tough to tell. IND has even shown me painted reflectors of BMW chalk that were two completely different shades.

Ideally I’d find someone local with BMW chalk, but it seems like everyone is on opposites sides of the country.

Can anyone with experience with the color shed some light?

I don't mean to disparage, but why not pick a better greyish tone. Chalk has become the basic b*itch of colors for Porsche and IMO it's a horrible color that looks far too beige in the sunlight.
China grey, sport classic grey, and several others are much better in that neutral greyish tone.

Not sure it's exactly what you are looking for but maybe of some value?

https://individual.bmw-m.com/en-US/G80-31AY-P7B

You can play with the angle and other colors using the menu on the right of the picture.

I wouldn't worry about it. BMW "Chalk" is going to be close to or identical to the Porsche Chalk. The thing with Chalk is that it looks very different on almost every car, even within the Porsche lineup. Here is a Cayman and a Cayenne both in Chalk. One looks darker with a more brownish warm hue, whereas the Cayman is lighter with a more white/bluish hue.

If you like the color, just get it! It will be close enough that you will not notice the difference (probably even next to a Chalk colored Porsche).

I've noticed the same variances with Audi's "Nardo Grey" (which is what I had on both my RS5's). A friend of mine had an M340i in Nardo Grey, and to me it looked much different but in reality it wasn't. It was just the car, the lines, the lighting, etc. etc.

As a former 2x chalk 911 owner, its my belief that Porsche has 2 Chalk colors. The Macans chalk is much darker than 911 chalk and I dont believe the car shape has that much to do with it looking that different from each other.

Seems very much like you mean to disparage.

Porsche Chalk isn’t very common in my area and I absolutely love it. None of the colors you mentioned are available for BMW individual.

Yeah the individualizer would be the last thing that would help haha.

I’ve always heard the chalk SUV was different than the cars, never about nardo though. Appreciate the advice!

My concern is the car looking this shade, which doesn’t look like Porsche chalk at all.

That would be confusing, do you have any proof? Same paint code.

I like porsche chalk as well, but felt like it looked a little different on BMW. ended up going fashion grey, which is more saturated. the bmw chalk looks almost close to brooklyn grey depending on lighting.

I have no proof other than my eyes and pictures like these. I know Chalk color differences have been brought up on rennlist a few times. Ive see it mentioned online elsewhere too. A current member here (who is also a 911 owner on rennlist) and I spoke about this and he also felt macan chalk was darker. So I feel like it is. My chalk 911's looked like the lighter chalk color on the caymen. I would have loved to had the macan version more.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Porsche/com...sidering_both/

This is what the chalk color differences we see. There is clearly two different shades here. Maybe one is over a lighter primer than the other. I dont know. All I know is, Macan Chalk always looked nicer to me. More greyish.

The link you posted pretty much has everyone saying exactly what I said. Point is, if you buy an OEM Porsche Chalk touch up pen, they don't ask you whether you have a Macan or 911. Likewise, it's the same paint code if needed to get a body panel resprayed regardless of what Porsche model you have. My conclusion, it's the same paint and just looks different on the larger panels of an SUV, lighting from various pictures, angle, cleanliness of said cars, etc etc.

You are right. I only see one paint code for Chalk. But as a two time chalk colored 911 owner and being around many chalk macans. All I can say is the macans always looked darker. No matter what angle of the sun you pointed them at. Macans looked darker to me.

Fashion>Chalk>Nardo I would never entertain the idea of a greyscale color , outside of it

Congrats! Also you can see the huge difference between chalk and Brooklyn in the second picture. Did you take this picture?

Interest question that I don’t know the answer to. I also don’t care, as I love any “shade” of chalk and ordered it for my G80. My car is going through inspection now and should be delivered in the next month or so. I can’t wait! Awesome color imo.

There is a picture online of chalk and fashion grey g80’s side by side. Might help you decide.

Chalk is a derivative of fashion grey which began in the 60s, it is less “beige” saturated in comparison. The colors are similar but different side by side.

Sorry, can’t help you, just wanted to say was in kinda same situation. 😁

Wanted a 991.2, only in chalk, but couldn’t find one that checked all my boxes, and crazy parts is that they were same price or bit higher than 3 years earlier when I was also searching. Anyways, it’s also a bit small when I have to bring my wheelchair every time. 😁

So what was the next best thing… an M4 in chalk. 😍

To me the color look the same but haven’t seen them side by side.

I say go for it! 😎
