M3 to GT3?

Hello guys,

I’m just curious if anyone of you may have jumped from M3 to GT3 or any jump to a Porsche. If you did make the jump, what are your thoughts on the driving dynamics and the quality of Porsche. I’ve been trying to acquire a Z06 and for the price and the markups, it just not worth it to me personally. The GT3 naturally has pop up. I recently put down deposit for it knowing it will take a year potentially. Although I was called the next day was asked If i was interested in a GT4RS due to a customer backing out so who knows..The Turbo S is also something I’m considering due to no markup.

'22 GT3 over at Porsche Palm Springs.....

I'd love to have a GT3 as a weekender if I had the garage space. Good luck with the search.

GT3 is truly my favorite car to drive!! The sound/feel it’s all just perfection. Never going to be the fastest thing around, but it makes up for it in many other ways. Good luck

There are multiple discussions about this on the M3 vs sub forum.

Yea the mark up used is ridiculous right now. My dealer is only 20k markup currently and it’s new. And I’m a picky in terms of buying this type of car and having it spec the way I want.

You've gotta laugh when stuff like "curious if anyone of you may have jumped from M3 to GT3 or any jump to a Porsche" is posted, when mere moments of research or simply common sense offers the answer

You gotta laugh at people posting worthless post that doesn’t help anyone. I have seen several threads of people comparing to GTS, 718 Cayman. However, I personally have not seen a thread of anyone really jumping to GT3 even after searching. I’m not talking about reviews from YouTube guys. I’m talking about guys who actually have own both on here. Regardless thank you for your worthless 2 cents. Greatly appreciate it. You must not have nothing else better to do. Take care.

I would grab the GT4 RS if I had the means, it's one of the quickest most nimble track cars in the world and with a set of 3 way MCS or Ohlins and some GY 3Rs (vs PSC2) I bet it's faster on a technical track than a stock GT3 on PSC2. I'd love the GT3 too, just saying the GT4 RS is more unique in certain ways, mid engine balance, first time they put the GT3 motor in the Cayman and maybe the last time--I really hope not.

I drove 991 Turbo S on the Porsche experience track in LA and loved it, also drove the 991 GT3 RS. I've always thought it would be great to take a 992 Turbo S and put in MCS or Ohlins, all the other suspension upgrades like SPL spherical in my ZLE, remove back seats and anything else you can do to lose weight without harsh road noise and losing comfort, add an E85 tune for +200 WHP. Then use it as a daily driver and track monster, like a modern day 993 turbo which was a much lighter and more raw track toy. Up until 5 years ago, a track acquaintance in LA was out there kicking ass in his ~20 year old 993 turbo with "some Ruf parts added". Driver skill and suspension tweaks were most of it, but that car has special quality that endured for decades.

Let's say if I had an incoming, brand new 992 Turbo S in Blk on Blk and a 2018 GT3 in Guards, would you be interested?

I am keeping my M3 CS and snagging a Targa 4GTS as a weekender.

Plan is to snag a GT3 (or even better, RS) in a few years.

Get both so you dont have to have this problem

The GT3 will be my next car after the M3. I do want to keep it (M3) though as its a 6MT. I am on a list for a Carrera S (PDK). I know its not a GT3 but the Porsche driving experience is very unique and different from the M3. Like others stated, the mark up is insane right now but if one pops up, I'd say hop on it or even wait the year.

After I quickly said no over the phone. I did ponder for a while on it. I’ve never really been a Porsche guy to be honest, but I always said if I get a Porsche it would be 911. I’ve never really loved the way the 718 is shaped. By no means is this opinion of my true but simply my opinion. The 718 reminds me of one of those “smaller” sports car that I would categorize…Miata, Z4 and ect which personally and respectfully just not something I want. I know the performance is leap and bounds ahead of the cars that was mentioned but the nonetheless falls in those category for me.

I’ve never driven a Porsche or know much about Porsche or care to know too much about it until the last 6 months. I always knew the 911 Turbo S was king of the streeets, however this M3 has lead me to the Porsch platform. I’ve learn the enjoyment of driving a car other just loud and obxnious unapologetic things that the Hellcat can do. I’ve always heard people talking about the connection that driver has with the car on the road. I’ve never personally never felt that and the M3 has lead down that rabbit hole. That’s why I’m personally more interested in the GT3 than 911 Turbo S. 3 years ago, I would ALWAYS and I MEAN ALWAYS take the fastest car. Now I’m in search of something different. Honestly I don’t plan to do too much to the GT3 other than maybe a mild tune just to give me another 50-80HP. There’s guys around here with UGR lambos and 1500 GTRs. I’m not trying to chase to them.

Honestly I’m only interested in the 992 GT3. I’ve just starting messing around with build sheets, kind of remind of me when I started building the M3, my wife rolled her eyes this morning because I stayed up till 1:30 in the morning messing around the configuration lol.

Haha who knows that might be an option when I actually do get the allocation. However, I think I would trade the M3 for the M5 as I would want something slightly more comforatable than the M3 if I had a GT3. I saw a Targa while I was in Montreal earlier this week and my goodness, it was absolutely beautiful!

That’s awesome. Have you started configuring your car? How long did the dealer tell you what the wait time would be? I’m overwhelmed with the amount of options compared to the M3 lol. I thought the M3 configurations was tough originally. There were always certain options a lot guys on here mentioned that is absolutely needed for the M3. I’m still extremely undecided on what options are absolutely needs for a Porsche. But I have time lol.

HMU if you need Porsche options consultation. I swim in the shallow end of the Porsche ownership pool, but I’m pretty dialed in to what tweaks do what. And there are many.

As for your situation, don’t close your mind to a 992 Turbo S. I owned a 991 Carrera S and am in the process of selling a 997.2 Turbo S. IMO, the 992 turbo has a lot do the GT Soul in it, while still being very practical. The GT3 is amazing but it lacks torque and feels best when wringing it out. All that suspension connectedness? You pay for it in NVH. So totally depends on what you’re doing with the car, and what feelings you want to experience in it. I wouldn’t buy a GT3 where I live in Houston unless I had time dedicated to taking it out to the hill country.

But yeah, if you are serious, more than happy to talk through options. There are no “must haves” at that level. Just depends on how you want to sculpt your experience.

If you get a GT3 20k over you will be one of the lucky guys, mostly asking 50/70k over. 992 GT3 production is almost done, try to get your allocation before end of the year.

I have a 992 GT3, 718 Spyder (a 718 GT4 with no roof) and an M3 Xdrive. GT3 driving experience is unique, this is my second GT3, had before GT4, GTS, etc

About GT4RS it is a great car, almost as good as a GT3, it has an incredible induction sound, do not see it like a cheaper Porsche, it's a great car.

Quality in Porsche is excellent, some plastic quality went down last years but still top notch

Getting into a 992 gt3 is about 270K with the ADM.
I haven't been compelled to trade a 991.2 gt3 for it, when I already got 9/10s of the car and it's like 190k instead.
gt4rs is going to be over 200k to get into it. And it's still not a gt3. On my 5th porsche (caymans, 911 turbos, macan turbos), but messing around with dealers is just silly now, hence choosing a m3xdrive comp for my daily.

a GT3 needs buckets, FAL, full leather. that's it.

Pretty common to get GT3 fever for many BMW enthusiasts. I remember a “perfect” E46 going up for sale because the seller had to have a GT3. I did not understand the obsession. I had driven Porsches and thought they were great, but lack of practicality and price were not justifiable.

Until, I drove a GT3, they (GT cars) are amazing. I was lucky enough to drive several, before falling in love with the 997 generation.

Good luck!

I am with you.

Sorry to de-rail this thread, but the amount of butthurt people who take time out of their day to post "USE THE SEARCH BAR THIS TOPIC IS ALL OVER THIS SUB FORUM' is laughable.

Even if he made a new thread for a topic that may have been covered moths ago, WHO CARES? Some of you guys really get way too uptight about this stuff.

Anyway, are you planning to switch from a M3 to GT3 as a daily?

Go GT4 RS and don’t look back. It’s a legend. If you want a new GT3 one day, I’m sure that won’t be a problem with the 4 RS as collateral.

As if the GT3 (shiny red) and M3 (IOMG) drivers I saw yesterday on the very popular stretch of road in front of my house read this (and the many "versus") thread. Always obvious when a GT3 is within a mile of earshot. Sounds like 750 inline 4 with aftermarket exhaust that won't shift out of first.
The road has many off camber turns, I'd say 2nd gear in the GT3 with one 1/4 mile straight which is VERY rough. In my opinion the AWD of my car is better suited for this rough slick oddly cambered stretch of road.
When it opens up on the other side the "verus" could change. But it's still a high traffic popular route with cyclistss. And the cops know it. Not that I condone going that fast on public roads with a lot of slower traffic and blind corners.
I'm always on the fence, with hindsight, of not getting an M3 even though I don't like sedans, but there's no denying I'd take a GT3 or GT3 Touring just for that sound and because I prefer its looks over the GT4.

Based on your feelings above on the 718 body style I’d put the deposit down on the GT3 and wait for that. You have a nice car to drive in the meantime and you’ll end up getting what you really want. (And for that investment there’s no sense in settling for something you’re not as passionate about)
