I don't love anything 4000 lbs on the track, much prefer a 911/Cayman weight car on the track, but the g80 x drive is only 150 lbs lighter than the BW. Plenty of people track g80's.

I've owned or had a ton of seat time in every gen M3 except the e30 and owned a 1M as well. I still own a e36, e46, & e92 m3, all manual.

My next daily is going to be a 5BW. I was just waiting for the facelift.

Yeah but unlike GM, BMW has been making track-capable sedans for decades. Even Corvettes, which are much lighter than the BW, have always been prone to overheating or grenading engines when tracked.

Exactly. The performance is one thing, living with the interior every day is the other thing and watching it age badly (just like every other before it) is another thing. No, thanks.

You mentioned the GM car was heavy, I was just pointing out that the g80 was only slightly lighter. It's not like the M3 has ever been a lightweight car. We aren't talking about a cayman or s2000 here.

There are plenty of GM cars that have been reliably tracked with mods. Most bmws need some mods/preventative maintenance to reliably track them too. Almost all cars do.
Idk anyone that I've tracked with still on their original rod bearings in their e46 or e92. DCT e92s run the DO88 cooler because they overheat too.

Corvettes & Camaros are one of the most common track cars out there. Auto vettes were the ones that overheated and the early c7 z06s that didn't have the secondary radiators.
