This makes sense in the grand scheme of things.

This news doesn't bother me at all, but I'm definitely going to wait a few years into the next model run for them to work out the inevitable kinks.

I'd be more ok with an m3 that reduced power and weight to increase efficiency but also added more tire and aero to result in faster lap times.
Having the sharing with i division be from carbon fiber lightweight construction would be way better than trying to do the hybrid power adders Maybe one day when batteries are good enough to be lighter and higher capacity an all electric M3 could work. But a hybrid just seems really bad. Activehybrid3 in particular had pretty much no benefit over a 335 (I spent a week with one when my f30 335 was in the shop) |

Had much more torque when you hit the accelerator on the low end. There was a reason they put a higher range on the hp/trq display on the AH3. |

A little more low end torque (which I couldn't notice) is nice but not at the cost of +300lb (which I could notice) Same acceleration potential as gas car, same fuel economy but more weight and more cost. Why bother. my overall point is P100DL+ should be what BMW m goes for, not AH3 "m perfomance" |

I would also point out the extra 300 lbs in the rear gave the car an almost perfect 50/50 balance. Quote:
Are M owners willing to pay 50% more than they do now for an all electric? EDIT: Actually that's a moot point as the story said they were looking at Hybrids. Last edited by GCinFLA; 08-06-2017 at 10:34 PM.. |

Low end torque isn't a problem so with s55. It already smokes the tires or triggers TC. I can't speak for others but I certainly will not purchase a hybrid m3. Even with the 918 caliber of cars, I'm not completely sure the cars wouldn't be better if they just kept it gas only and lighter weight. The all electrics for sure have shown a clear performance and efficiency benefit As for paying more for all electric, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. "Long range" model 3 has 80kwh battery for $45k. Could we see a p80d model 3 for $60k with mid 3s 0-60? My f80 saw some DEs but it was mostly a street car. I'll happily pay equivalent money for an all electric with comparable straight line potential, since I keep an old school gasser around for "sport" driving |
