Yikes! Guess this also means the end of manuals in ///M cars
I'll be getting an m2 in two years, I think I'll seal it away somewhere and then make a huge ROI at the auction in 10 years

have you driven in a tesla. The zero to 60 was faster than my F13 M6. Just saying there is potential for faster 0-60 and more torque with electric engine
Just hope BMW doesnt "pipe' in more artificial exhaust sound |

EDIT: Scratch that. What I originally read about the Regera wasn't accurate. The ICE does directly drive the rear axle.

I'm excited; I'm just thinking of a 918 Spider-lite. I just had a conversation about this yesterday with someone. Hybrid as a supplement (rather than complement) to the ICE means monstrous torque and horsepower, and more efficient recapture of lost power (from braking, ostensibly).

Its still fascinating, for sure The original write-up I read (and can't find) incorrectly stated that there was no transmission because the ICE would only drive wheels through the electric motors by way of a generator. An incorrect assessment, that I'd guess was due to the "ZOMG no transmission" coverage the car got early on.

Interesting as this seems to be the future for all BMW models.
Something to think about for all the folks who are welcoming this with wide open arms. As futuristic as BMW tries to be with the i8, the very reason they put an aggressive ASD in there is to make it sound like a proper sports car. As much we try to get away from the rumbling gas engine, it seems that even BMW understands that it is at the very core of a proper car. If this wasn't important, they would pipe in the whirring sound of an electric engine. The whole point of ASD is to make the engine downsizing more palatable to the average BMW buyer and given how much BMW invested in this tech (more than any other manufacturer), they understand that a proper sounding gas engine is everything. I must be getting old... |

Not a problem if you lease a new one every 4 years, but I tend to keep cars for a long time. |

This is a huge F-YOU to everyone who doesn't have the ability to plug their car in! Hey BMW, a lot of us live in condos and apartments and have zero ability to plug in their car. You just lost all of our business.

Innovate, or die. I'm excited to see what BMW M has up its sleeve for the next car. More communicative suspension and steering, AND electric tech similar to that found in LaFerrari and P1? Bring it on.

Also, with the proliferation of EVs and plug-ins, many apartments and condos will be adding charging stations in the future.
