The question of whether they can know if the car has been tuned is complicated as some say yes, others say no. What's more important is whether they care enough to do anything about it and the answer is no. hundreds of thousands of BMWs are tuned and getting warranty done without any issues, I doubt BMW can tell but if they can then they don't care and that's the more important part. I take my leased BMWs with full bolt on to the dealership and get my warranty work done without any problems. Unless you are asking them to repair the damage your mods caused for free, they won't give you any trouble.

RaceChip is about 1/2 the performance of a JB4 but also 1/2 the price. If you don't really care about performance that much and want a power boost it gets the job done. In my opinion it's mostly meant for Honda or Kia and does not belong on a $80k BMW.

749 for the GTS and 50 for the Blue Tooth gizmo. There are 3 levels S, RS, and GTS. You are not buying a GTS for 350. |

The Jb4 is a better value as it offers more features like data logging, custom maps, etc... It also has more aggressive maps.
The race chip is easier to install. Im running their map six because, with map seven, traction becomes a severe issue. It's more than enough power as is. Both solutions are reliable and fun. If you are looking for max power and most features, get the Jb4. If you want a tune that's easier to install and uninstall, Get the Race Chip.

Hell, if I ever go to the track, is just to see other people race and socialize. My goal is to get some good sound out of this engine and get rid of the EPA imposed limitation. For me, at this point, Racechip makes more sense. I'll lean more towards JB4 if they develop a more user-friendly e85 system.

No the software all does it automatically. You just pick the E85 mix and the JB4 map which determines how aggressively you want to run.

Oh. So you would have a separate map for E30, E40, E50? I thought you meant that if you were in a range the ECU and JB4 can figure it out. Or am I still not getting it? Just ordered one and should be here in a week

I'm still learning about this new S58 platform (I feel like a true newbie again). Some of the questions I have are: - What's keeping the S58 from running 100% e85? - With a JB4, how far off can the e85% content be before getting in trouble? -- What would happened if running too LOW of e85 for the map? -- What would happened if running too HIGH of e85 for the map? -Is it recommended to run a full tank of premium after ~4 tanks of e20-e40? I guess I'm just blowing this out of proportion, since I've only seen a few ask these questions. But for me, after a few tank re-fills, I would start to lose track of what e85% I have in the tank with a good degree of certainty.

Here are the Jb4 maps
Map 0: Stock operation, JB4 disabled Map 1: Default performance map, 3psi peak request over stock (suitable for all 91+ RM2 fuels) Map 2: 4psi peak request over stock (91 -93 suggested) Map 3: 22psi absolute boost target (93 - E30 suggested) Map 4: 23psi absolute boost target (E30-E40 suggested) Map 5: 25psi absolute boost target (E30-E40 suggested) Map 6: User adjustable map. RPM1500 value of less than 5.7psi make entire map6 additive target based, value over 5.7psi make entire map6 absolute target based. Map 7: water/meth progressive map -- under development Map 8: Low boost / VALET map Please note, the BMW ECU can auto adjust, a slight deviation will not cause catastrophic failure. - What's keeping the S58 from running 100% e85? the stock fueling system cannot supply enough fuel with 100% E85 and a piggyback -- What would happened if running too LOW of e85 for the map? your octane would be lower than the map was set for, so the boost will be too aggressive and you risk causing damages to your car -- What would happened if running too HIGH of e85 for the map? you would supply less fuel than is needed to the engine -Is it recommended to run a full tank of premium after ~4 tanks of e20-e40? i recommend getting as close to the empty tank as possible. then use an E85 website calculator to calculate your mix. Keep adding the same mix every time so you do not have to keep calculating the E85 percentage.

As someone that just wants a little more power than stock out of my non-competition, does the Racechip make the most sense? It seems like the most set it and forget it solution. I have read that the JB4 works best in comfort mode -- is that true for Maps 2 & 3, or do they work fine in the other engine modes? I know for a fact I'll never be running any e85 or anything like that, I just want to get in and drive without thinking about anything. Maybe waiting to see what Dinan comes out with is a good idea?

And for the price, I guess it wouldn't hurt to get it over the equally priced RC.
