BMW and M are not just about the M3 and M4. They have some excellent other cars in the current lineup - M2C/CS and M5 come to mind. The designs of the XM/X4M/M8 also look good with great performance and driveability.

It's good they're aiming for new buyers though I would have preferred they didn't use the M3/4 to attempt to do this. Can you imagine Porsche, Ferrari or Tesla blowing up their marquee brands for new buyers? Almost definitely they would have created a new model to go out on a limb with and not risked their most critical model and fanbase.

BMW have done their research and know that their loyal fan base for the M3/4 will buy again regardless of exterior design. Only one way to prove them wrong.

I guess BMW is so 'hip' that their avant-garde ads are exempt from having to adhere to good art direction.
Right, the ad isn't catering to the traditional driving enthusiasts with motoring culture, refined taste and brand memory, but to the unstable, unhinged, impulsive individuals with no emotional control, no taste and no driving skills, who are compulsively shopping to make the loudest and most garish possible statement of how shitty they feel about themselves.
And nothing makes them feel better than THE BADGE. Gotta get a hit of some checkered Bavarian colors. Oh yeah...

In my case, it is not the exterior design that will sway my next purchase...

What will it be? The extra 500 lbs? The boring AT transmission compared to the superior DCT? The Lexus inspired m performance rear spoiler and exhaust? I could go on forever.

I know you are really commenting on the Y-spoke wheel design, and not necessarily implying these are literally the same 763M already available from BMW. Still, just to make it clear, these are an all new wheel. You can see this by comparing them side by side, in particular where the spokes meet the hub and rim.

The real reason I wanted to call this out is because CLAR vehicles use a 5x112mm bolt pattern which is a change from the old 5x120mm BMW standard. So, for anyone hoping to do so, you unfortunately won't be able to use the old 763M on the new car.

While styled similarly, those are not 763M. They are more akin to the M5/8 M-Performance wheels with machined out scallops in the spokes.

I will miss my 763's (although these are, as noted above, slightly different), but I am not willing to pay whatever premium BMW is asking to go M Perf wheels.

I'll do the exhaust and front lip in a heartbeat.

Yup. Heavy as hell and no more DCT. On paper for now, I don't see any performance gains from my current M4cs. BMW has taken away the key differentiators that made their cars more appealing to me over the competition.
