The engine, chassis, transmission, etc have all been tested already. This car is built out of a parts bin. I wonder what is it exactly they are testing?

I hope they have the Mxdrive as optional so people will see the performance difference.
Then we'll see how many "purists" there are that are so angry about awd on an M car that they will let the xdrive cars smoke them just out of principle. People have been dramatic about it but I still strongly stick by my statement that the f80 is heavily held back by traction issues. The response: "learn to properly modulate throttle" is the classic, but the fact is with how heavily you have to modulate throttle on these cars to keep the tires sticking you aren't accessing the power that you've got. Just improving traction (hopefully without much new weight) would add real performance to the next gen. If its sniffing 500hp with mxdrive.... this car will be a blast. |

I'm hoping we get an answer if it'll be awd or as an option or not!
We really need awd to use all that low end torque otherwise such a waste. Thanks for sharing! |

Why do the engineers insist on making the ugly exhaust can visible from the rear?
I will never understand that - it’s the only visual complaint I have with my F80.

Even with no DCT?
I think that’s going to be the ultimate sticking point for me...but maybe the ZF will be good. I haven’t been a fan of other ZF boxes.

The shell on the outside. it’s the only “new” thing. This is how BMW rolls now - see the new M5 as proof.

After all the speculation in both directions, why is it the author of this post is comfortable stating there will be a 6MT? How does this tie into the presence of a test mule?

more engine sharing, more transmission sharing, even platform sharing...
bmw is diluting this sacred badge from it's lineup.. and instead will charge more for the special editions to make you feel special. I was hoping for something unique - engine+electric motor AWD to make the m3/m4 standout from the lineup but it looks like BMW will do what they did with the F90 and do essentially more of a refresh than ground up design. |

I think that those are just added on on-top of standard fenders, like stick on flares. If you look closely they don't go to the bottom of the fenders

Love all the hate.
This will probably bring the M3 back to the undisputed KING in class. S58 with 500HP on the CLAR platform M-XDrive with RWD setting Water Injection System 6 MT

This is my opinion too. I think they're using the regular 4 series fenders with tacked on over fenders. In fact a lot of the body work looks like a regular 3/4 series; like the rear bumper and side skirts. I think at this stage, they aren't really testing the aero qualities of the actual G80 trim.
