Installing M Performance Seat Backs in G82 Question
I am trying to install the M Performance seat backs in my G82 but am getting stuck at how to put the screw into the seat release, once you remove the screw you take the tension off of the release.
I have the seat on correctly, but the pull is not all the way in the release hinge. Any tips would be greatly appreciated or video showing how it was done. |

This is a G82 it has the seat release latch you have to get it perfectly lined up to get the screw in. If I had a G80 I would have been in 15 minutes. Even the dealer didn't seem to have an answer on it....so frustrating.

I do not have a tip for you other than trying harder and not to give up. I managed it after a while but it was a pita. I remember, I quite stretched the handle out and beyond its normal operating angle to get the screw back in.

I was thinking about getting these too but was concerned about installing that handle. Can you wedge a pry tool behind the lever to get it to pop out far enough to get the screw in?

Alright I finally figured it out. Here is how you get the hinge lined up with the handle.
1. Make sure the pull handle is pulled so the seat is tilting forward 2. Slide the seat back on and when you get to the pull handle you need to squeeze the seat back and hinge area together. 3. You will hear a slight pop when it is in place, then have the screw in your hand and start threading it in. You will know you have it when there is tension in the pull handle, then you will know it is seated. It was incredibly easy once I figured this out. Took no more than 5 minutes per side. The key is making sure you squeeze that asembly and seat together so the pull can pop into the hinge Last edited by Jims M3; 12-20-2023 at 06:51 PM.. |

A couple of pictures at night, they look really nice. The people at the dealership hadn't seen them installed and they all loved them in person. They just class up the interior even more.

Also, how easy was removing the OEM seatback? Anything to watch out for there? |

Ok I just installed these and it was a lot easier than OP made it seem, not sure why it was so much trouble.
The removal process is the same as the G80, two flaps with T25 screws behind them, then pull the bottom out. To release the top, pull the release handle for the top of the seat forward, and you'll see a T20 screw, pull the release handle *even further* and you'll be able to unscrew it out. After that, the seat back should come right out when you pull up. Installation is the opposite, install it with the handle pulled out, get it positioned properly, and pull the handle further to allow the screw to be threaded in. After you get it threaded in, push the bottom into place and replace the screws/flap covers. Make sure the two pieces of fabric are "placed" behind the hinge covers on the left and right edge. I had no issues with getting it positioned, nor did I have to do any pushing or getting anything to line up. It was quite simple. |
