Brake Dust Situ
As we all know, the dust is insane.
Is there any options available that prevents me from cleaning these god awfully beautiful busy wheels? Can I use track pads in the meantime even though I will be driving street? Not sure if those have less dust. Is there a way to get carbon pads or anything on the regular brakes cause I didn't realize the dust situation would be this bad. (Wish I got CCBs - but that's for next time) Is there a brand at the very least that produces what I'm looking for, that I have to wait for? But it'll be exactly in my needs of street + dust improvement etc. Sorry for the new thread, I know we have like 4 threads on this, but I feel like people overlook those. |

Brembo brake dust sucks. I see these post on every model of car Ive had with Brembo Brakes. My M4 is probably my 10th car with Brembos, and its the same story, everytime. I went with CCBs this time. Doesnt really matter what pads you go to, you can minimize it, and very little, but it will always be a mess, within 10-20 miles.

My car just went into Body assembly begins, this morning, so, I dont know, yet. Im hearing both, its about 90% less, but you still get some dusting. However, it may be more road dust than actual brake dust.

I hoping to get a really good baked on ceramic coating for the wheels. Something so good, that the little brake dust they will make, wont stick. Im 100% the same way. Ill pay the $8,100 for near zero brake dust.

I've learn this the hard way. 5 mile trip= bronze wheels. I would of happily paid to have CCB.
One thing I do to minimize dust is downshift and let the engine do the braking to minimize me pressing on the brakes. It helps some but still get a nice coat of dust. |

As a general rule, the better the pads, the more dust they generate.
However, on my G30 (540i) BMW went with a low dust pad, and they worked pretty darn well and the wheels stayed relatively clean. But, you will notice a performance change (and not in a good way) when you go to a less dust pad. And of course, that's on the 4 door family car sedan with no sport pretensions. These are performance cars, with performance brakes. That is, unfortunately, the cost of doing business. And FWIW, I have seen many folks on Rennlist say that they spent the coin for the CCBs purely to reduce the brake dust. It's cheaper to buy a few extra sponges, but I'm one of those guys who washes the car weekly and doesn't mind (terribly) spending an extra 10 minutes to clean the wheels.

If you've never done brakes might be a bit daunting. You'll need some high temp anti seize too.

Its really not that difficult, take your time. And make sure everything is torqued down before you put the wheels back on... (dont ask me why I said that .

I ceramic coated my wheels and while that does help, its not enough. CCB for me next time FOR SURE.
