My brother just received his G83 M4. This is his first BMW and I'm super excited for him. Haven't driven it much due to my hectic schedule but I'm already planning my go-to mods for his car. Will probably start another build thread sometime in the future but for now, the first thing I'm doing is swapping out the US spec taillights with the Euro Spec Tailights. I've done this along with the Euro Rear View Mirrors (Aspheric) on every ///M I've owned.

I don't think anyone has installed the Euro Sped taillights in USA yet as this product has not even hit the market yet. So I'll be sure to document my process when I receive my set in a week or so. I have some plugs with BMW Europe execs so I got my hands on a few sets and they should be arriving shortly.

Will keep this thread updated.

Sounds good. I think the euro spec tail lights are superior to the USA version as well. I never understood the blinking red turn signals they should be amber. I'm always confused why they take a European car and try to make it more "American"?
I think some people have done this already with the G80. Pretty sure it will require some coding.
If you would not mind sharing your source from whom you've purchases from I would appreciate it. You can DM me if you'd like.

Please keep us in the loop. The European taillights are not and they better than the American ones

When I look up Euro spec, I just see results for GTS tail lights. What's the primary difference between US and Euro?

Different pattern used for blinkers + amber in color?

Abdul, my biggest pet peeve with my G82 is that we didn't get the Euro Tails. So I'm following your thread closely to see if they're basically plug-n-play, or if revised wiring is involved. So thanks in advance for sharing.

And, where in the hec did you order the Euro Spec Tails????

We have, here's some installed images along with a comparison of US vs EU. Also additional wiring, EU headlamp switch and coding was needed for reverse fogs

Tom, is it just me, or are both of those installed images using the USDM cluster (per your third image)? Maybe I don't know what I'm looking at.

I'm definitely interested in these, love a nice amber turn signal like the car gods intended.

US Kombi (instrument cluster) is retained. A EU headlight switch is required for the needed rear foglight button if this feature is desired.

Sorry - I meant the light cluster itself on the back of the car. It just looks like it's the same thing in both of those rear end shots, and both have the double row of "clear" LEDs like the USDM light in the 3rd picture.

I apologize, the first two images were "before" (US) images. Images have been updated.

I don't have a G80. I've seen G80 Euro Spec lights installed here. But they aren't easy to find as well.

I'm looking to get them for the G82/83. I haven't seen anyone do it for this car yet. If someone has, please chime in and give us your feedback and tips.

It's certainly not a P&P mod; on newer BMWs, for Euro taillights to work properly on a U.S.- spec vehicle, it requires running an addition wire from the body control module to the taillights, in order to independently separate the brake light(s) and turn signal function and changing some of vehicle's mapping from USDM to ECE.

The drawback to this is every time the vehicle's software is update, it will revert back to the original US light settings, causing the Euro taillights to not function properly, until it is recoded again.

The taillights for the US and rest of the world is different not because BMW is trying to make your car look American it's because the color of the turn signals on vehicles in Europe is legislated to be amber. In North America, there is no such legislation but there are different regulations about the minimal surface area of the blinkers and brake lights. In many cases, you will notice automobile manufacturers in their US spec vehicles using brake lights as their turn signals in order to comply with the North American light dimension regulations.

Utilizing a red signal allows auto manufacturers to meet US surface area requirement without a redesign of the basic structure of the taillamp assembly, which would be a costly endeavor. One single larger red signal/ brake light(s) alternating operations offers a practical solution which fully meets considerations of design and production costs.

I was able to code the "Euro tails" (separate brake lights from turn signal) on my G80. I used bimmercode following these instructions https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=161. Works Great! Now I just need order the Euro tails.
