You didn’t say whether you started the car or just the battery. If it’s totally dead, lacking any other information and assuming you didn’t start the vehicle, I’d just assume it’s battery related. I’d try replacing before I had it towed. But, getting it to the dealer will work too.

Hopefully a new battery and you’re on your way!
I have a feeling you have not priced a new battery for this car

@Znomorph4theWin what's the voltage on the battery? Next time run the engine from time to time instead of relying on a battery charger.
Should not be a problem with a battery tender. I had my GTS and a motorcycle on Battery tenders all winters for the last 6 years. No issues.
Sounds like a defective battery or voltage sensor.
How did you plug in the battery? Should be positive on battery and ground on the other side I believe. Worked for me.

Update:

Boosted the car. Started no problem. Drive for 45min to the dealer who checked out the car. It was the UVP that tripped. No other issues were noted at this time. Now that its voltage is back up, the battery tender recognizes the battery now and is currently charging it up to full capacity.

So far so good…fingers crossed

It’s the BMW branded CTEK. The one that can do AGM and LioN car and motorcycle batteries.

I suspect the problem was with the charger. Or, Perhaps it was not clamped down securely to the battery terminals in the engine bay and the battery gradually just drained out.

I took it out for a nice long drive (weather has been unseasonably warm in Toronto) with a few restarts along the way and no issues. Right now, it’s back in the garage and charging (currently at step 3 of 8 charging steps)

The CTEK chargers come with a set of comfort connect cables with eyelets that you attach to the positive and negative battery post with a quick connect connection. You can put the clamp on connectors away. Same thing happened to me a while ago with a clamp that wasn't fully connected....

Excellent. Good to know.

So far, battery is on the 6th of 8 charging steps. So far so good.

You should be directly on the battery in the trunk.

You would think…. But according to page 336 of the owners manual….

Charging the battery
Charge the battery only when the engine is off and via the jump-start terminals in the engine compartment.
Additional information:
Jump-start terminals, refer to page 340.

Besides, the battery is in the trunk and is relatively inaccessible.

Final Update:

Battery is now fully charged and all is good in the world again!

To all you CTEK battery tender guys, get an ANCEL Bluetooth battery monitor or CTEK battery monitor, hook it inline with your cables and take the guesswork out of your tender charging status.
I use both for multiple vehicles. Handy esp. in winter

Yep Lithium car batteries need love too.
The CTEK has a very gentle/gradual charging cycle\process. It ramps up the voltage very slowly. After it reads full/ green I let it float for a day. But I don’t leave it on. After a charge up cycle is complete in 24-48 hours I disconnect it. I only charge it when needed.
(No potential sulfation issues like a SLA/ AGM).

This exactly what I have started to do. Charge her up only when needed. Then disconnect the charger when done.

Mine has been on a CTEK charger since August (I haven't been home since them). Just in the last 2-3 weeks the bmw app no longer has any info on the car, so, it looks like I might have this in my future. Thanks for posting this up here, OP.

You bet. It was definitely a lesson learned on how the battery will behave if it drops below its low voltage threshold. I wont let that happen again !

Regarding the app. Besides a dead battery…consider this….

My car is stored in my garage. I’ve noticed occasionally that it might not connect to the mobile network because it’s not in an open environment. This will not allow to the car to connect to BMW servers so the app won’t update.

As soon as I open the garage door and move the car outside , it quickly connects to the network no problem and the app works perfectly. In other words Signal strength might be a cause as well…

Thanks for these thoughts! I'll find out when I get home in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to drive it again.

Occasionally I’ll toot the horn to test the connection.
I’ve also found the tire sensors are not spot on in the app. I measure to 0.1 lbs with my digital gauge and the tire pressures are exact. The sensors read 3-4 lbs high

Enter the car, first 5 seconds everything is normal. dashboard lights up, interior dome light turns on, music starts playing….

Then out of nowhere, 5-10 seconds later, the dashboard and interior cabin light starts to flicker 3-4 times, then silence. Car is completely dead. No lights nothing. It’s like something shorted out or something….

Note that the battery tender does not register the battery at all….

Car only has 149km’s on it.
Having it towed to the dealer tomorrow morning. Will see what they say.

Needless to say, I’m 😤 pissed.
Almost the same thing happened to my 2022 BMW X7 4.0 today... except there was no flickering. No start. No dome light. No dash lights. etc. etc.
Had to have it dragged onto a flatbed on the way to the dealer.
