Mine is firmly mounted in the trunk. I’ve run no front in Oregon for over a year with zero issues. I also have a tow mount plate adapter, but no plate is so much cleaner. Ultimately your choice, but until I get a fix it ticket I’ll continue to go front plate free.

I tried STO N SHO for a year or so, but the %#@# mount was so low that the plate and mount got all mangled.
Then I tried Carbonio and did not like the mounting. More $$$ pissed away. Now I'm tempting fate without a front plate.

NJ, haven't run a front plate in maybe 14 years and it has never been a problem. I mount one for inspection and then take it back off.

Same. Required in IL, but I don't expect to have any issues unless I go into Chicago (which includes parking at O'Hare).

RHO Plate tow-hook mount. I've had it on there for years and I'm used to it being there. It's fine.

Mine is mounted in the trunk. In Colorado, you cannot be pulled over for no front plate. When I picked up the car, the dealer told me it was a bigger crime to mount the plate than to leave it off.
No problem so far. |

IL requires front plates. For the first 3 days I had the car, I did not have front plates. Then a Chicago police saw me drive by, did a U-turn and started following me. Then after a few blocks, they did another U-turn and drove away. I assume they saw my fancy M3 with no front plate, their license plate reader alerted them, they decided to get a reading to make sure it wasn't stolen...? Anyway, there are so many po-po in the city that I didn't want the hassle of no front plate.
I'm using the BMW mount in the center. If I took the plate off, there are 4 small holes in the black plastic that you can't see from a distance anyway. |

In NY they're required, but I haven't run one since 2017. Like others have said I keep it on a tow book bracket in the trunk, and plan to plead forgetfulness for not reinstalling it if I ever have an issue.

I have been ticketed twice in 10 years. Once on a GT500 and once in my GTR. I was given two other warnings on my GTR. In Iowa the fine with court costs is over $100. I will gladly pay the fine before I drill a bumper. If you go to resell the vehicle there are a bunch of enthusiasts that will not even consider the car especially since it is an “enthusiast” car. If it was a Camry, nobody would care.

Knock on wood but I've been in California nearly 14 years and have never run a front plate. In that time, I got one ticket years ago because my parking meter expired and they tacked the plate ticket on.
That said, it does give an excuse to pull you over but I'd wager half the cars I see daily don't run front plates either.

No plate for me, but not much experience yet either. I have the Sto & Sho as well but the plate is in the trunk. My understanding in NY is if I were to get a ticket (unlikely unless street parking in NYC) all I have do is attach the Sto & Sho with the quick release (and prove it to the court/PD/etc) to cure the violation.

VA. Front plate state but never mounted mine and never had an issue with LEOs, who undoubtedly have better things to do. But then I also drive within the law too.
Whatever you do, don't put it in the windshield like I see people do. Aside from that not being a legal place to mount a plate, that just draws more attention to the fact you don't have the plate on. |

Front plates are required here, and for many years I just didn't run one. Although I've never been cited (or even warned) for it, I decided I don't want any issues so now I just run the RhoPlate front mount in the tow hook spot. Like the user who posted pics above said, it's fine.
