Meant no offense. It's just how I would feel.
And you have the right to feel that way. I just don't think the majority of those with RWD are regretting it.

Not sure why the convo has pivoted to Rwd is trash now because x-drive is available. We all knew it would be coming in 2022. It's a beast , no surprise there.

Its the internet. People just want to throw shade to ruin others vibe. Disagreeing to be disagreeable. A symptom of the rampant dissatisfaction and low self esteem among people. All the comments on r/bmw are negative, in a sub that's supposed to be for fans of the brand. Its a bizarre world.

Take a RWD G80/82 in comparison. If you reviewed all the performance statistics for each of these two vehicles, the xDrive 0-60 will be a clear outlier metric. It is significantly better than the RWD version, however, almost every other metric will be worse (due to weight, balance, transmission loss).

Also, that advantage level is only valid when using Launch control. Put both cars side by side on good tarmac and do a one foot launch (off brake, on gas), which is more representative of driving in general and the difference will be very small.

AWD is game changer for those that live in wetter/colder climates though. A year round useable M car.

The other 0-60 outliers are usually EV's. We know electric motors produce max torque at zero rpm, so can apply full torque from the get go.
ICE need some kind of slipping device to transfer torque from a rotating object to a stationary object. During this transition full torque is not being applied and likely the object (engine) supplying the torque is not at peak torque during this stage either.
I agree with most of your post, save for the bolded portion. A torque converter has the ability to multiply the torque output while it is "slipping" under load, giving it an enourmous advantage for launching an AWD turbocharged car.

The X3M slightly outperforms the X5M. You hinted at the M3 encroaching on the M5's territory because it's 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are close. Like the X3M vs X5M, the X5M offers way more than the X3M aside from performance.

Not really, OI had an M5 on order at one point and changed my mind for another BMW. I cross shopped the M3/M5 this time around too. In the end I wanted a more fun car that wasn't as large, but I still love the M5.

Yep … the M5 has a lot going for it … I've been tempted by the CS but know that at the end of the day I'll probably have the most fun in a 6MT G80.

I had a dealer willing to sell me a CS at $1K over invoice, I sometimes regret not taking them up on the offer... but I'd feel bad driving it every day so I'm sure I'll love my M3

edit: I had another dealer willing to do $3500 invoice over which wasn't bad either. I'm digging through my emails to see, I came very close to buying one.

I am actually a little shocked at the negative reactions in this tread. 3.07 is outstanding run and I am stoked to get my hands on my AWD. This car is such a performer. It's the best of both worlds can still switch it to RWD only if you want. Also being in the NE with heavy snow it is great to have AWD as my F80 is pathetic in the snow.

And it’s .37 seconds faster then the advertised 3.4. That’s outstanding.

I believe that's with the 1 foot rollout and prepped surface. Could be wrong but I understand Tesla is pretty strict about perfect test parameters.

But this is a real world test from an owner and board poster- not in perfect conditions. Further, the G8X can do it over and over and over and Tesla will die a short launch death.

Oh but that Tesla exhaust is amazing!!! (not that our G8X sounds great out of the box LOL)

3.07 is impressive. An outlier? I guess it depends on how strictly you define outlier. Cars that are faster or right there with it:

GTR, C8, 911 CarreraS, M5C, any performance version Tesla. Even a Trackhawk will be right with you.

The M4 will pull on the C8 after 60. The others, not so much.

I'm still more impressed that the M3 is one of the last fast sedans to offer a 6MT. In 10-20 years, that's what will matter to collectors. 0-60 in 3 seconds will be ubiquitous.

I still understand the infatuation with straight line speed, but I've driven faster cars on the street and it's pretty pointless unless you are doing illegal street racing in the middle of the night.
Cannot agree more

I think straight line performance could be important for some people even in everyday driving on public roads such as pulling from a light (hopefully within legal speed limit) or freeway on-ramp but I just can’t see how you can possibly activate and use launch control in these conditions. From experience, without launch control, No ICE car can keep up with something like a Tesla in these conditions as the EV has 0 lag or gear change so if you want to race at every light or every ramp and feel good I think Tesla fits the bill better. I never got to even use the launch control in my f80 once even on the track day and probably won’t use it on the G80

Don’t get me wrong the video and 3 sec is cool and all that. It’s a fast car for sure but I was trying to understand why it would matter for an average M3 owner like myself. Not trying to be negative it’s cool a cool video for sure and effort went behind it…I am sure there will be lots more….

I always look at these times in this way.
1/4 mile time is for the track
0-60 is for street racing/From a light you would say

Now a days, I'm all about the 40 to whenever I let off. Normally after a few bus lengths
