CT5 V Blackwing gets a facelift

https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a4...ies-blackwing/

Nice nose job and they fixed the biggest issue on the car....the absolutely god-awful dashboard. The new screen brings it up to date and makes it pretty compelling if you can put up with the fuel economy.

Beautiful car !
And I wish BMW took some notes on how to implement a dashboard screen properly.

Yeah, I would agree that this looks a little more properly integrated. And it's nice that they have the separate controls under the dash. BMW could have easily done this.

Having said that their turn signal stalks and shifter are still straight parts bin trash.

The front for me was never the issue, pre-facelift and facelift both look great. The rear is what I couldn't get past, something about the trunk and tail lights look really clunky.

The screen does look much better though, although I wonder if they elevated material quality in the interior. Didn't see that mentioned in the article.

Not just rounded corners. Look at the gallery in the article linked. To me it just looks a little more integrated.

Just my opinion.

I have zero issues with ID8 so I never felt like it needed fixing. To me, Caddy's take is different and I like it, but I wouldn't say it's better unless it's all one screen. Split screens are my only knock on ID8.

I just left a dealership and sat in a 2024 CT5-V Blackwing. I just can’t get over the “Chevy 2.0” interior. Things fit together well, but the font on the buttons was Chevy. The leather/pleather on the dash was Chevy. The color and texture of most of the buttons was Chevy.

With enough actual seat time, you’d care less. Ask me how I know….

I am waiting to test drive one, but on the CT5VBW forums, I recognize a lot of the old enthusiasts from this board during the E90/F80 days, which is fairly telling, that the car must be an engaging drive.

Absolutely. Quite a few M car peeps in them now.

I call it an E9x M3 that’s actually fast

I mean, isn't the point of these high performance vehicles the actual performance? I can't find the article showing statistics but a huge majority of blackwing buyers track the car.

It sounds better than the M cars, is faster than the M cars (Except the 0-60 of course) and is a fantastic track vehicle. That to me matters more than aesthetics.

Sorry, but I still would.

I know it's a great car. And I'd love to try one some day. But to ME, it's not something I'm willing to overlook.

The thing I find validating about the people who are buying the Blackwing cars is that they are usually owners of other high end marques, such as Porsche, and many were previous owners of M, AMG, RS cars and have heard nothing but very good things from a driving standpoint, and quality standpoint.
I find that the times I am in a Ferrari, the buttons are the same as those from a Fiat or Alfa which are fractions of the price, but ultimately, I don't think it matters that much. Same with Porsche - same buttons in a 300K GT3RS/S/T/Sport Classic as you get in a 60K base Macan and likely the same as you get in any Audi/VW but no one seems to draw any parallels.

Completely understand that standpoint. That resonates with me as I had the same hesitancy before I pulled the trigger. And then I hit my first twisty road and rowed the gears during a WOT pull. Pure magic.

Full disclosure; I’m typing this while I sit at the dealer as they’re replacing an emissions system component.

This is the theme. While the 5BW is the most expensive car I own, there are a few members on the boards that own some wild exotics along with their 5BW… and it seems to be their favorite car. Again, likely purely due to the LT4/manual.

How would you compare the WOT between the manual M3 and 5BW? I know the 5BW is more comparable to the M5, but in terms of rowing gears and acceleration, did it offer a similar experience?

There’s just a lot more drama with a manual 5BW. The transmission is one of the best out there, the TR6060, also in the GT350. So the feel is mechanical. Then the engine; that’s the centerpiece. Torque and power everywhere. Sounds beautiful at full song… or at any RPM really. And the acceleration. Bonkers.

My previous G80 was a Comp, so auto. I’ve only had limited seat time in a manual G80. IMO, the manual experience in the 5BW is a lot more engaging, and I guess serious? My E90 M3 was a manual, so the BW is very reminiscent of that.

I think what has set the hook for a lot of us converts, is going from the S58 to the LT4. The sounds and feels. Goosebumps. Do I still long to have a new G80 CS in my garage. Absolutely.

Admittedly, I don't know much about these cart but I find it hard to believe that a heavy GM sedan is going to be a fantastic track vehicle. Does it have the cooling, brakes and transmission durability to do multiple laps without overheating and/or going into limp mode?
