Variable redline

I'm not sure I've seen this feature in other cars because it's a first for me, but today when I started my M4 comp in the morning, I noticed that the rev limiter was set to around 6200 RPM and it slowly started "growing". After a few minutes of driving around, it was back to the normal 7200 RPM.

I'm guessing this is some form of protection that kicks in before the engine and/or gearbox are fully warmed up?

This is normal, it will limit revs until the oil is up to proper temps.

Pretty sure the E39 M5 beat it to the punch by several years.
