X or H pipe? Appt today- help me decide!

Going this afternoon in T minus 2 hrs for my mid pipe chop job... I’ve ran both applications on other platforms. Hoping to hear from those with bmw experience- I know there are numerous active threads. But for those with experience preferably, simply question:

X or H pipe?

Videos will be provided this afternoon - thanks in advance!!!

I am going with an H pipe myself. X pipe promotes more raspy notes while H pipes have deeper tones.

LBbluem2 did the x-pipe and I think it sounds good, because that's what BMW originally put in there as well. I know there is more rasp in an x than an h, but that is the euro sound. I would go with X

Yes do the x! You'll love it👍🏼👍🏼

Also wire your valves open for some extra rumble in the lower rpms and at partial throttle

Copied from Mid pipe post::

I did the **EXACT** setup as LBbluem2 without messing with the valves.
Yes, even with dual res delete and X, its far from over the top- actually, if anything I'd say trending underwhelming.

That being said, Sport+ decel in 2nd - 3rd is gorgeous as is starting her up cold. I would say up top is far from obnoxious. I dont see anyone being upset with this mod- I paid $270 - full stainless piping.

I will shoot some video to add to discussion as soon as weather/work/life permits.

All in all - very happy, wont be messing with valves. Take away I'd say is to not get greedy and stick with the res and X or H (my exhaust guy was anti H). This is a well suited band-aid until aftermarket is tried and true. I plan on yanking the charcoal filters and will try my best to be content for a while!

Yeah definitely not aftermarket loud, but I'd say how it should have come from the factory.

I know brother, I felt half way guilty not getting it done. I can tell you once I come through and upload a few vids, I think you’ll see.

I’m glad it’s not any more “tame” as it already trends quite modest. Talk is cheap, will be back with videos sometime this weekend!

Life is short, and I wanted more audible...? I just don’t see a loss here. I hate it? Would of handed him another 300 bucks and said put it back lol.

I’d say with your setup it’s louder than it comes off in car although taking off secondary cats will have a decent volume bump. G8X has immense sound insulation which really masks how loud the car is in actuality (F8X suffers the same but to a little lesser degree). At the track with valves open and without resonators and secondary cats my car is pretty friggin loud. Loud enough that it’s very clearly cutting through my helmet, earpiece w/ instructor talking, and wind noise with windows down at 120+ mph

Damn that's pretty loud then...

I'm still trying to find someone to drive it for me so I can hear it myself from the outside to gauge the current volume..

I’ll attest this to be the case- my brother was driving my car while I was in his behind PRIOR to res delete and X pipe. It sounded decent then... sound deadening must be very thorough. Trying to get him to take it for a spin for me again today- poor baby he is!
