TPMS errors and high performance driving

Per lemetier's request in the M3 comp vs M2 Nurbergring battle thread, I am looking for more info on the "dreaded TPMS" warning that we saw on the dash, and the subsequent discussion on how this happens and why it's a bad idea (potentially) to disable TPMS on these cars.

I have driven the absolute pants off my F87 and never received a warning, but in reading some of the threads here as well as the F8x forum this seems to be known "thing"...
