On my previous 430i, when I was using Apple CarPlay when I would hit the next button on the steering wheel to change the song, I'd see the name of the song I'm now listening to

On my g82 it prompts me with "waiting for Apple CarPlay"

Ps I use Apple Music if that makes a difference

I'm using Apple car play with Apple Music and I do not have the same issue. I don't think I've hit the next button on the steering wheel, but I used the wheel to scroll and it shows up right away. Check the my BMW app (or car if you prefer) for a software update. If that doesn't work, try restarting your iPhone or even backing up and restoring it and see if that helps.
