The G80 M3 is great but I also loved my F87 M2

Sold my ‘18 LCI M2 6spd 2 years ago, missed it so much and decided to get the last of F87 M2C.

After adding MPE exhaust + MP coils to my order I decided to check G80 base 6 spd. I really liked it and have an opportunity to change my F87 M2C allocation to ´21 FG or BG G80 with 6spd, carbon interior and possible premium pack as I want HUD.

From watching many videos and reading our forum I’m extremely disappointed with S58 exhaust note. I assume DP is what most are going for?

Still on a fence between the two..

I changed my F87 order to a G80. It's not that much more expensive and it's a better car overall even if the styling is controversial. Reviews say the G80 feels as nimble as an F87 and it's faster in all settings. The only reasons to get the F87 are classic styling and a more raw experience.

Mat Watson said he'd rather have the G8x:

Classic styling and raw power is exactly what is keeping me awake lol.

You are completely right, with about 5% discount on both cars I can get G80 for a reasonable price and won’t feel huge money difference.

I am also switching from LCI M2 with M Perf Exhaust, Ohlins suspension tuned to be more comfortable than oem, AP BBK, M4 alum brace and misc stuff...

I totally understand the exhaust dilemma, the N55 in the M2 makes some really nice sounds but it's only a part of the equation and the G80/82 is just a much better car, after test driving one and getting back in the M2 for a few days all I could think of is the short wheel base pogo effect, the chassis flex, the querky dct and the less mature sound insulation.

The new G series M seems to bridge the gaps of usability, excitement and performance like no other past M3/4 was able to do.

If you want a M2C and can still find an allocation at 5% off MSRP, get one. Then if you like, after a year, sell it for 10% less than you paid and get an M3 LCI.

Cut out your resonators and secondary cats.

Engine sounds fine, they just muffle it for the NPCs who buy these things and the European government.

I just can’t see getting an M2 too small, just seems like a rich kids car , not a car for adults

Are you disappointed with the tone or the volume? Both can be fixed

I don't have a ton of experience with that platform but did get some wheel time in an M235i. Driving a G80 now I can say the driving experiences are pretty drastically different. The G80 feels much bigger, which is great for stability at high speeds and really nice having the practicality of usable rear seats. I've never driven a car that works so well as a daily and can instantly be exciting totally slay a mountain road.

But even knowing that the 235i was much "slower" it doesn't necessarily feel that way. It's a much more visceral driving experience and feels so quick even when you're not at the limit. People would complain about the flinty ride in the 2 series, and from what I hear it's even more stiff in the F87. Exhaust was definitely louder in the F series cars (fake cabin sound, outside and artificial pops) which is personal preference

Either way both cars are great drivers cars but have very different personalities. You can't go wrong choosing between the two!

As an adult (in my 40s) I disagree. My '18 M2 was my favorite car I've ever owned and it was perfect for me. Only upgraded because I needed 4 doors.

Same here, while the e92 M3 was my favorite M car, my current 18 M2 is way more enjoyable that my previous F80 was.

We're probably going to see an LCI for the m3 next year. I'd hate to get into a 3 year lease or buy a new car to have the design changed in a year. I think LCI will be much nicer - can you wait for that? M2C is a great car and just a different car than the m3 comp, all depends on your use case, right.

For a daily driver, I'd have picked the g80 m3 comp I specced out - but for a weekend toy car, I went with the m2 cs and didn't regret it at all, the m2 comp isn't far off from it.

+1, I love the F87, but it just can't cut it as a DD for me.

It even got annoying using my F80 as a DD at the end when I had to (G07 was in the shop and had to do a few 1hr+ monotonous highway trips with kids). I think the G8x would be fine from what I can see, it is certainly in the running for my next non-SUV DD.

What is wrong with the F87 as a DD?
I've had an F80 as a DD for 3 years and was totally fine, this baby is another level of fun.
(Although, the roads in the DFW area are fine)

Petty stuff: road noise, interior quality, etc. It just depends on what your normal commutes might be, mine includes a semi-weekly 90 mile round trip drive that's 99% highway. It's not a car I want to cruise at the speed limit-ish on a highway for more than 20 or so miles without having a specific purpose I'd want to take that car for.

Interesting. I drove my F87 year round in Minnesota and did many 1000+ mile road trips. To me it was a perfect daily: small, nimble, comfortable, and could carry a decent amount of stuff (including 3 people and all their gear).

The only thing that got old was the exhaust noise but that was my own fault (Dinan setup)

Makes me very excited for the comfort of the G80.

It's all relative. I preferred the F80 over my F15 X5 in just about any scenario aside from being a people mover, it was a perfect daily for me at the time. Once I got the X7, the F80 grew old quickly for those longer trips and transformed what I look for in a daily.
