Phone charger in Manual transmission G8x
My iPhone over heated and shut down while in the charging cradle today. I had been driving for about 20 minutes and had Waze and V1 Driver active at the time. This is the first time this has happened. I'd wondered about the heat of the phone charging in an enclosed area. Maybe this is the answer. But I have driven for longer in warmer weather and this didn't happen then.
Anyone else experience this?

I have not had any issues with overheating. I had 5 straight days of 5+ hours of driving with Waze on the full time with the iPhone in the charger without any issues.
My biggest concern was the lack of "charging" in the cradle - with Waze running it would barely keep the battery charged at the same level. 😅 |

I also have the same issue. Phone with Waze while charging overheats and drops CarPlay connection after 30-45min consistently. Removing it from charger and letting it cool by AC for a minute resolves it but can't charge again without the issue happening. I've learned to accept it.

My phone gets hot while using the charger (Android) and it doesn't charge real fast. I'm glad I have it but it's not the best. I see the 22 models are dropping it, so maybe my resale will be through the roof because mine has it lol.

My Android Note 9 phone gets very hot, running BT and AA, and doesn't seem to do any more than maintain the charge, so I've stopped using the charger.
And now today AA has been flipping out every time I walk away from the car, so I've disabled that entirely. Grrr. Technology. I've got a $15 induction charger on my desk that does a great job of charging the phone without getting it hot. Why can't an $80,000 car do the same thing?

Just picked up my car today (M3 base) and agree that the wireless charger seems to barely do anything.
Where are your wireless charging mats located? I always thought it was in the center console area by the cup holder, but in my car, it is in this holder inside the center armrest compartment. |

I have the auto, but I totally gave up on the charging cradle as it's just a poor design and needs to be reworked. My Galaxy S21+ would just overheat and stop charging. So now I have a wireless charger that sits in the cup holder so not only will it charge, and I can aim the vent down to blow cool air on it, but I have access to the screen. An overall fail for BMW though.
