All Season Tire Recommendations?

M3 xdrive on the way. I don't track it so not worried about the trade off in performance and just need to ensure I can drive in an inch or two of snow here in NY. Not long trips. Just don't want to get stuck. What I usually do is take off the Summers, store them, put on a set off All Seasons, and when the lease is near due, swap them out so no issues with tires at lease return. I don't want purchase a set of winter tires and rims. Tried it once. Too much work for me.

Anyway, anyone have a good recommendation?

Thanks

I had good experiences with Continental DWS06, but I would wait another month and get the new Michelin AS4. You won't be able to order them now because they haven't released the sizes for our car yet...they release sometime in July.

Are these gonna be star rated? Also the review says if you plan on driving in serious weather these arent that great and more of a “3 season tire”. Are the conti DWS good in snow?

I had the DWS 06 in 3-6 inches of snow and it worked well(On an Audi S5). There is a newer version DWS 06 +

In all honesty, you are better off getting dedicated winters if you are driving in "serious" weather.

Have a look at this. Bigger car however gives some insight.

OP, I asked this question in another thread somewhere about All seasons and nearly got virtual slapped for even suggesting to not swap my tires between winter and summer.
I'm buying my M3 so I figure for at least the first set of tires I will swap to dedicated winters and see how my back does with it. Also going to check my dealer to see if there are any tire swap and store specials too.
If all that falls through I will just throw performance all seasons on the M3.
After getting yelled at in that other thread, I feel I should at least make the attempt to swap tires.

Thanks. I tried that a few years ago. Too much work for me. Now I do the all seasons (my cars always come with summer performance tires) and it works just fine for my purposes.

You asked a legitimate question, but like anything there are going to be strong opinions and people who can't look beyond their own "correct way".

If keeping / storing 2 sets of wheels + tires doesn't work for you, then it doesn't work. You need to solve the problem with your constraints. I store my "off-season" set through my dealership, which costs me $ rather than space in my garage. I live in Canada, in probably the mildest region, and I still run winters for the part of the season when average temps go below 7C. I could 100% get by with summers + all-seasons, but don't want the compromises of all-seasons (or winters) outside of the months when I can't run summers (~march - Nov). I run performance winters (Pirelli Sotozeros) and very happy with them.

If/when I move, likely to a climate that has more extremely shifts, I'll do the same. I'm strongly considering running a set with summers and another with all-weathers (like Nokian WRG4s) or similar that is snow-rated. My car will be a year-round DD.

That is what works for me... if what you want is 1 set that runs year round, and won't kill you in snow then check this out:

So I have been debating this back and forth a ton. My allocation is locked in and I am waiting a build week. I have a M3C AWD with voodoo blue individual waiting to be built.
I am in a climate that can get cold and some snow but over the years the winters have been milder as far as snow is concerned. We also have a really good plowing service on the main roads too. I think All seasons would be a very good option.

I did a quick check on Tirerack.com and saw these tires. is that size correct? I punched in the M3 competition and it brought up what looked like the right size but the rears are 285/20 but the tires are showing as 285/30ZR20 99Y XL. which seems off to me?

Thoughts?
Also, I had to upload the photos from my laptop and for some reason they are coming over crazy big.

285/30/20 is correct for the rear

in theory my M3 will begin building in the next week. I saw that the Michelin pilot sport A/S are available.

now I just need a confirmed delivery date for my car.

Another vote here for the Michelins. Really good performance out of an A/S. I've never been thrilled with the Continentals (although I know many folks love them).

Wouldn't it be nice if we could order our cars with A/S tires? Not all of us live in Florida...

I'll likely order the DWS 06+ tires for three seasons and wait for a dedicated winter wheel/tire set.

The Michelin AS tires look great for dry performance, but relatively lacking for light snow duty. I had the original DWS tires on a 535x and they were pretty good even in deep snow.

I drove my Michelin AS tires all winter on a C8 - Not bad if under 4" of snow.

BMW is unlikely to put all-seasons on any M car as OE, so accept that they won't have the star if they're all-seasons.

I still got them. Will report back and let folks know how they feel and perform in the winter.
