What is this, and did your tool kit come with the lug nut key?

Hi everyone, looking over the trunk of my G82 and I have a couple of questions.

1. What is this thing in the first two photos?

2. My tool kit appears to be missing tools, can anyone confirm they have tools that I do not?

Thank you

In the first pictures, that thing is a dreaded item known as a front license plate holder. Proceed with caution.

Also, certain markets get certain tools or add on accessories. They strip these out (or add them in) at the VPC of the receiving port.

Thanks. I will be burning the front license plate holder as a sacrifice to Markus Flasch to bless my M4 with good luck.

Is it worth asking the dealership for those tools? I couldn't find a lug nut key in the car and that seems like a must-have. I certainly had to use the key on my F80.

What's a front license plate holder?

Also, isn't the lug nut key only needed if you purchase the wheel locks?

If you don't have wheel locks you don't need a key…just look at your lug nuts.

I thought wheel locks were standard on these cars. My 666Ms had them on my F80.

Interesting. In another thread, myself and another user both didn't get lug keys and we both had the 826M in jet black.

Could be that, I prefer not to have wheel locks so I'm not worried about it.

It's all fun and games until someone jacks your rims and leaves you on blocks.

Really depends where you live..

Locking nuts are annoying when you swap wheels often for track use.

I had the same thing happen. My dealership ordered the parts (at their cost) and sent them to me.

I had the wheel lock key (in a separate box, with the 4 non-lock bolts). I didn't have the tow hook piece. Dealer sent to me overnight, at their cost.

You'll be surprised. I lived in a very high end building in a very affluent neighborhood in Orange County, CA and someone came into the garage and jacked all the wheels off of all the parked AMG Benzes in the building. Being that the community is "affluent," there were loads of cars to pick from. Thank God my car had wheel locks ...some of the cars weren't even left on bricks and were left on the ground ouch.. loads of p****d off neighbors. Management only had cameras at the entrance and exit and couldn't place a suspect apparently.

As an aside, I remember a neighbor who actually owned a dealership, so he brought home a different car very often. One morning he went out and started to pull away from the curb. Overnight, someone had removed and stolen all his lug nuts (not bolts). Almost immediately wheels came off and the car dropped

In the second photo, the cutouts are for the (missing) tow hook and screwdriver (standard and Philips heads on common shaft). I have those from a previous BMW. The screwdriver I could take or leave, but 50/50 chance the tow hook is used any given winter (to pull someone stuck in a snowbank).

Tow hook and wheel lock key should be in the left side of the trunk, under the plastic lid.

Black 826Ms here, BMW box with 4 standard take-off lug bolts, and 2 wheel lock keys, in the passenger-side trunk tray. OEM wheel locks already installed (and I did not spec these or pay any extra that I can tell). Perhaps some dealers just put them on with PDI as a courtesy?
