I also had an m3 cs . I’m still in the break in period.... but the m2 cs feels way slower, worse steering feel... but something about it feels special... maybe all the great reviews.....or maybe it’s my first manual in 5 years!!!! Idk

In my small time in the car here are some pros and cons...
Power omg it’s fast feels like a 8 cylinder ( felt faster then my m5)

Looks really nice the carbon seats are incredible.

Handles really good.

Sound is really good much better then f80.

The car does feel special.

As soon as people start tuning it’s game over easily 10 seconds car...

Some cons...

Dead steering feel..... what’s wrong with car manufacturers why can’t they make there steering feel alive like Porsche.. I also have a 992 turbo s.... u can feel a rock on the ground!

Clutch feels absolutely like a old potato just mush.... (not good)

As great as it handles the car feels big . If you go to track days you might need to change tires and breaks more often.

I need more time too see if I will buy it... but as I got older I started Appreciating drivers cars and as good as a new m4 is I don’t think a 4000 pound car could ever be that
Looks like from all the reviews people are all over the map on steering...some love it some hate it lol watched the chris harris video where he said he was disappointed in the gearbox but absolutely loved the steering and immediately followed that up with the motor1 review which hated the steering 🤣

opposite opinion here - I came from an LCI 18 M3 comp DCT to a manual m2 CS and while I haven't broken the car in yet, my m3 had the CS+ tune and I don't feel the m2 cs is any slower.. confusing! much more nimble and definitely more special feeling

Edit: Nvm... Still the G8x is not a sports car to me, it will be my daily. The daily I take to work, getting food, road trips, the daily I wash in a 12$ automatic car wash. It's not that I chase seconds on the Nordschleife.

M Cars are always pretty good all-rounder to me. If you want a real sports car, plenty of other manufacturer do a better job than BMW, they never meant to be a hardcore performance car.

Because people cross shop them, and they both make it to the track.

$12 car wash...?

Big pass; I wouldn't do that to a used volvo wagon never mind a brand new M3.

I guess M3 is no different than a rental. I'm not there yet.

Why would I spend more $ and more time on a car which I will return in 36 months?

It's not like the dealer will return me some money for washing it by hand.

Been there, not worth it...

The M2CS is not slower since it has the S55 engine from F80 but the weight is similar to F80 M3 1647 kg.

1625 kg - M2CS MT (without CCB)
1650 kg - M2CS DCT (without CCB)

In my previous experience reading reviews versus driving cars, clutch feel is too subjective for me to worry about what anyone else thinks (certainly not intended to offend you OP).

The F80 manual with a clutch stop was one of my favorites and people were kinda split on it.

If you are leasing, you can’t beat the M cars.

If you are buying, $85K should buy you a 5-6 year old Porsche GTS with 30K miles or so, maybe. For newer models (1–2 year old), you are into $100K and up.

And you are still on 991’s, never mind the brand new 992’s

Most don't buy a Porsche for drag races. In fact, folks didn't used to buy BMWs to drag race. My E46 ZHP only had 235hp, LOL....(though it easily holds record for BMW I owned the longest).

Markets changed and so has BMW. What's stayed consistent is BMW outperforming its class, and it appears they have served up another winner with the G80

Thanks for the review. The potato comment concerns me - this is comparing it to the M2, or to a Porsche, or something else?

Meh I'd argue there's a lot of cross shopping amongst the enthusiast crowd. Many 1/2-series, M3/4/5 guys also own Porsches or view the Bimmer as a stop-gap to an eventual Boxster/Cayman or 911.

BMW needs to do a lot better with their steering calibration. The steering in cars like the Giulia, Boxster, Macan, and even Cayenne feels so much more naturally-weighted and provide a good sense of the front end without fatiguing the driver. I don't feel the steering on any of those cars is stiff or uncomfortable enough to scare off buyers.

BMW has shown with their stiff suspensions on vehicles like the G20 and most M models that they do want the cars to feel sporting. Why they refuse to improve their steering baffles me.

BMW steering, shifter feel and clutch are junk, news at 11. When has it NOT been this way? E46? Long, rubbery, vague throws, artificially heavy steering, etc.
