XDrive Dyno

Anyone here had an xdrive on a dyno? would it be safe to run it on an rwd dyno after switching to 2wd mode?

There is a dyno mode to activate for xdrive models.

Thanks. That thread mentions a 6MT though, so RWD. I assume we first put the car into 2wd mode before dyno mode?

No, its the same. The dyno mode will disable the transfer box so its rwd only.

Usually, the ppl operating the dyno do know stuff like that. If they dont, id consider another dyno.

Maybe they do. I haven't been to one yet but was thinking about how that would work.

Sorry to bump an older thread but yesterday I went to see the power differences from stock (aside from single midpipe) to with intakes installed and racechip on settings from high to low plus xhp (which isnt going to do anything for me on the dyno)

I have an xdrive and the dyno I was on was not linked. We put the car in dyno mode plus rwd. The car will start with just rear power then once it shifts the front wheels kick on. Which I m glad we tested before going all in or it could have gone really bad haha. We tried many times in different ways to cut of the front wheels from engaging. Even to the point I took off the xhp tune incase it was messing with the factory settings.

Has anyone come across this? I have read many other threads on here but couldn't find anything pertaining to just this unless I missed it.

Any help would be appreciated.

You need a 4WD dyno to dyno test these xDrive cars - otherwise you are just asking for trouble. If the car decides to power all 4 wheels then it's goodbye car

Even on a 4WD dyno, you need to put the car in dyno mode before doing the run to switch off safety features such as ABS etc. There is a way to do this via the BC button on your steering wheel (there is a video on YouTube about it)

That is what we were afraid of not being linked. I just figured in dyno mode and rwd it would not let the front transfer case engage but it does.

I would assume unplugging the transfer case would throw the car into limp mode. Hopefully xdelete can figure it out soon on these xdrives.

Looks like I am going to have to drive somewhere as this is the only one around me to try and dyno unless another person has successfully done this on here.

You need a linked dyno to properly dyno the xDrive cars, dyno mode does not help.

We managed to get a couple runs of our development car, but would never put a customers on an unlinked dyno.

There it is haha. I appreciate the input and figured that was the case but wanted to triple check.

This. Had mine for a few runs on an unlinked and never again. Car wasnt super happy with it. Got the data we needed and havent gone back. Set up for a linked to test the port/rk manifold when it comes

BM3 shop car is a G80 M3 with AWD. They run it on their in house AWD linked Dynojet. I asked them about it and you can’t dyno the car in RWD as you’ll still have AWD and transfer case engage and you can damage or break it.
