E38 750iL Issues

Greetings, all

I have a 2000 750iL with what seems to be an insoluble problem.

About a year ago, one bank of the V12 refused to start. A respected but anonymous BMW guru reviewed the facts and said he suspected a problem with EWS synchronization.

Now, neither bank will start. Perhaps the second bank is a different issue, but even if it is, one bank isn't enough to haul this vehicle around.

I cannot find a shop near me (within 100 miles) that has the capability to assess/correct this. One dealer said their factory diagnostic equipment no longer supports this vehicle. That conclusion was echoed by a respect independent BMW shop.

Is there anything to be done here, other than sell it off as a parts car?

Were you able to get any sort of diagnostic output from anyone?

Factory diagnostics work just fine on this car.

What do you mean one bank won't start? Have you checked the basics like fuel, spark etc? These cars aren't exactly difficult to diagnose.

What I mean...

Respectfully, what I mean is that 6 of the 12 cylinders appear to be deactivated by an EWS fault (they appear to be locked out by the anti-theft system). A well-known BMW guru, whose name I won't drop here, said the EWS system needs to be re-sync'ed between the 2 ECU's. I have not found anyone near me who indicates they are able to do this.

To expand...

Two dealers in non-NYC New York told me they can't service this. Two well-regarded Rochester indy shops who service the Watkins Glen crowd also said they can't help. There is no bimrs shop within hundreds of miles. Perhaps nobody wants the hassle of dealing with it.
