It just came out today, so no one knows what the remedy will be.

This affects a relatively low number of cars, so an engine swap could very well be the most straightforward solution that is less prone to complications.

Maybe I am naive, but FAR less prone. I wouldn't want a tech who spends most days working on oil changes, rattles, alignments and bent wheels opening my S58 down to the guts. Seems like BMW wouldn't even allow that, assuming the procedure is as invasive as I'm reading.

I did not know you could use the UK recall checker with US VIN's too!

That's great news, gives you all the ability to "self-service" and check any technical campaign/holds against your car.

As mentioned by others in the thread, you can check it using the Chrome Developer Tools (F12) and monitoring the network traffic.

Anyway, I am week 40 production (production due to complete early next week) and by the sounds of it looks like I got lucky and will avoid the engine stop-sale... remains to be seen if I get any RAM stop sales. I will check as soon as I am dispatched from factory.

Any week 39/40'ers that have been dispatched from factory able to check their recall status to see if there's stop sales there?

You can find the link to the UK recall checker here: https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/footer/quic...e-recalls.html

I’d shared instructions inspired by your post into a different thread here (with due credit).

My M4 Comp xDrive went into production on Sept 10, and finished near the end of September. It is not subject to this stop sale but is subject to the RAM stop sale. It’s on a ship now per the tracker.

My M3CX production ended on 10/05 for a US build and the UK site shows a RAM stop sale (nothing else). I'm still in "Dispatched from the Factory" position, so the UK site is fairly helpful.

How’s it a low number of cars? It seems to affect every M3/M4 from start of 2022 production (July) through to early (M4) to late (M3) September.

It's a portion of the cars (which were already seeing production constraints) made during a ~6 week period.

I'm guessing the affected car count doesn't exceed triple digits.

I’m week 39 although it officially finished 10/4 (week 40). RAM stop.

I hear you. I only have 700 miles on mine, got my X3MC three weeks ago.

I am hoping that there is lots of speculation about this and that the actual issue doesn't call for bearing shell replacement. That is hugely, hugely invasive.

Good luck to all.

Hoping it's all speculation too… even though the uk site says I'm affected, I just got a text from my SA that said I'm not affected by it so who knows 🤷*♂️

Agreed with waiting and not flipping out yet. I have approx. 600 miles on my car. UK site says I’m affected but what am I gonna do even if I am? There’s no use getting bent out of shape before I’m even made aware of it from BMW. We have no idea what the issue is or what the fix is. Let’s just relax.

I emailed the dealer a copy of the Delivery Stop from this thread, and of course, he hasnt emailed me back. Im not listed on the UK site or the US site, as being affected, but my build week was 34 and my assembly falls right in that window, as 8/25.

I read that not all of the vehicles are affected, I get that, but how are you going to prove to me, which cars were where, and what was assembled, and how my car falls inside the window of affected vehicles, but isnt named?

I still have a RAM stop sale, on my car, but I have 2 options. Im guessing, since my car is still at the port, that if they have the capacity to repair it at the port, that its going to be repaired, there. At least the mechanics at the port are doing every car that comes in, under this affected timeframe, or its going to get delivered to the dealer, with an open work order for this MAIN BEARING issue.

Either way, I have the leg up, because not only have I not taken delivery of my car, I didn't even put a deposit down, to order it. Im glad I listened to my instincts and didnt buy any accessories, or anything else for me to install on my car. I can just walk away, with nothing except my time, having waited almost 3 months in anticipation for this car.

Honestly if I had a delivery pending I would cancel it. Not worth the headache. Just ask Porsche GT3 owners about this...this is going to turn into a huge issue

I'm sure it's a production run of the engines, so they know which engines are affected and therefore know which cars they ended up in. Engines may or may not be produced in the same factory as the car is assembled. They are also a whole other production process, this batch of engines won't match cars produced in a tight range. The date range is the dates every affected car was assembled.

Talking about the 991.2

If I'm buying a new M3/M4 (most likely for a premium) the last thing I'm doing is allowing some tech fresh out of school experimenting in the engine bay.

It's either that or providing a 10 year warranty like Porsche did

I believe it, Jim, Ive just owned many new cars, and had TSBs and recalls, that havent been named, but fell under the range of affected vehicles, and had high pressure fuel pumps, quit and leave me stranded on the highway, with 800 miles on the car. Ive been there. I have next to zero trust when it comes to this type of issue.

10 year warranty would be fair.
