Just saw this on another forum. This is in effect as of today.

Sorry for those affected, I am guessing you will be recalled soon.

Could this explain why some week 39 and week 40 builds are stuck in QC for a number of days?

This is great. More delays upon delays. Now they are going to open up the engine to install this. I was already worried them screwing something up by installing the RAM module since it won't be factory installed. Now this.

Engine production date, or car production date?

Not too sure in all honesty, I hope it's not engine production date but I guess we will get more info in the coming days as this bulletin propagates to the dealers.

I will cancel my order over this there is no way in hell I am buying a brand new car that some tech who's never opened these engines before has done freaking main bearings in. Not a chance in hell. My car is at port in california now, this is ridiculous.

Someone commented saying that this must be the vehicle production date as dealer wouldn’t know when engine was assembled, so it cannot be engine production date

Thanks for sharing this... Cannot believe there are so many issues for a 2021+ M-model car, so disappointing......

I wonder if this was the reason my car was in quality check from 7/22 until 9/27 and hoping that it was fixed there. No stop sales when it got on a ship on 10/2. Thanks for posting.

Yep sure enough this will definitely be a recall.

Here in the UK you can check for recalls using the BMW website.

I took a random 2022 M3 (from UK AutoTrader) and stuck it in and this is what it came back with:

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too, but wanted to check. Thanks for posting this

Also interesting is there are two engine codes for the M3 and M4 coupe, but only one for the G83 and X3/4 M? Anyone know the difference between the S58O and the S58T engines?

The G83 has only one engine type (competition model only), but the X3 / X4 have two types of S58 like the M3/M4 but only one listed which seems to imply comps only for the X3/X4

I was Week 38 with a scheduled production completion date of September 28th. Affected by this or not? Just emailed my SA to ask as well.

Edit: G80 is what I have

This is pretty worrisome...asking a dealer tech to do major work on a new-ish engine they likely have little experience with yet is mind boggling. Maybe I should be glad my allocation keeps getting pushed back to let them iron out the kinks.

Yep. It's one thing if it's an engine change, but main bearings means, transmission removal, lower and upper oil pans, crankshaft removal, rod bearing removal. Lots of opportunities for something to not be tightened to spec. Leaks or fasteners to be left out. Not to mention introducing debris

No shit, right? This is the first time I'm happy I've been delayed in production to week 45. Haha
Hopefully they get this sorted out. This is getting ridiculous.

I'm not too sure if I want my car now if I'm affected by this. This is too much. I doubt they'll extend the warranty because of this.
