Perhaps it was different before unless I'm mistaken on earlier G Chassis (G01/G05/06 etc)

From what I have read it is not needed for the digital keys to work (applies to both key card and iPhone).

I have based this on some posts I read on the G20 forums where owners have retrofitted wireless charging to their non-wireless charging vehicles. And prior to the retrofit they already had the keycard and iPhone digital key functionality.

It uses NFC which does not require the wireless charger to function.

https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=101

If you look at above post, it implies that the digital key function was there and functional before the retrofit of wireless charging.

Furthermore the digital key is listed as a feature in the Comfort Access option on the BMW UK configurator so is not dependant on the wireless charging option.

EDIT: l I think a lot of confusion is coming from the fact that the NFC module is installed near the front tray alongside the wireless charger. Those with base/manual models don't have it due to the transmission which prevented BMW from installing anything underneath the front tray (this is why their wireless charger is in the arm rest, but no NFC module in their case)
The confusion also stems from BMWUSA not listing Apple CarKey as a feature in their order guides or on the website. The only reference, that I can find, is an overall press release.

Why isn't this feature listed? It's a really cool feature, IMO

My wife's X5 has the wireless charger. We never use it as the iPhone over heats and the charging is extremely slow anyways. Also, it's near impossible to get to your phone once it's in the charger if you have anything in the cup holders.

Other posts indicate that Android phones work much better than iPhones though.

I was looking forward to having this as an option to charge in the arm rest on the 6MT but I'm also just as happy to save $200.

If the wireless charging is taken out, may be this is an alternative?

that's not ideal because it removes a cupholder from use. there are many aftermarket solutions but none are the same. I want to see if anyone can retrofit the OEM model

I would rather spend the $200 because it's well worth having to me. my build is $96,395 before the M Performance CF splitter is added, I'm waiting on the final total still. $200 makes no difference in terms of the cars cost because it's so trivial.

Sure. 0.2% ($200) on a $96k car is nothing. My point was that this wireless charger in these cars falls way short of my expectations. It is slow, it overheats the iPhone, and it is hard to reach if you use the cup holder.

For me, this would literally be spending $200 for no benefit, which is never a good idea no matter how much extra money I have to spend.

When I test drove the M3C my phone got super hot using the wireless charger... just on the test drive alone! It won’t be missed.

I agree if you're using an iPhone, but for everyone else it's nice to have. I always try to use everything in the packages I option to justify getting them for 1 of the 3-5 options in each. On the M3, I don't think there's anything I wouldn't directly use. On that note, I am excited to finally be getting my build number soon! ETA is still August

Thank you so much for this. I've been on hold since 3/13 and in a way I'm glad I was put on hold. I thought it was silly to keep the laser lights with the Exec package, as I didn't want everything it had. Now I can simply get the headlights.

I hope it'll just be a few more weeks for allocations.

So does anyone know if US can place the CF bucket with Fiona, Ivory and Fjord for 2022? It seems like everywhere else where they have the 2022 configurator enabled, they allow you to do e.g. Fiona bucket

Can port install M-performance lip? Or does this need to be installed early on during production?

Download the order guide, it has this answer and many others.

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1829887

hint: The answer is yes. Only Tartufo is unavailable with the bucket seats.

i wonder when bmw will update their website so we can get a build code for a 2022.

Has anybody been able to get a build code off of the bmw website while using their iphone browser? I am not able to see the build code unless on a laptop.

Your dealer is scamming you here, any vehicle currently in possession of a dealer is "instock", what it means is you cannot use it for a vehicle delivered after the promo end date. The dealer will still be entering the promo code and collecting an extra 1k in profit if your car arrives before the end date.

Many on this site get caught up with "ordering" you are never actually ordering a car from bmw you are always asking an independent franchise dealer to request a specific spec be built so that they (the dealer) can buy it from bmw, then they turn around and sell it to you. For that brief moment time when the car is officially transferred to the dealer but before you have completed your paperwork it is "instock" as far as any promotion is concerned.

Not sure if that's right. My understanding is that customer names are put on order allocations. If those names are not removed from the order before sale, OL codes cannot be applied. If customer names are removed from the order, the vehicle can be sold to someone else.

As long as the customer isn't locking any promos at order date anything is fair game that is active at delivery, the only rule is no mix/match from lock period and delivery period. Considering there are no 2022 promos or financing/lease rates yet not sure what would be locking.

When do they normally post incentives for 2022 models, assuming there will be any? Does it align with SOP?

It's odd that the 826M Black rims are in the ordering guides, but are not actually able to be ordered. They're not an option in the system according to my and several others' CAs.

Agreed. The Standard on the Pricing Guide is 826M (1T8), bi-color, yet it's listed as an option. My CA believes 1U0 826M Black is now standard, and sent an email to BMW to confirm.

This is correct, for the M xDrive 1U0 is standard, on RWD 1T8 is standard - it's like this here in the UK as well.

It's a £0 option to change from 1U0 to 1T8 though (if ordering a M xDrive)
