Today's build killer options
As of late yesterday, specifying:
-- Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight caused a "QC Warning" but left my week 8 build date intact. -- Fjord Blue/Black Extended Merino Leather interior caused my build date to totally disappear. Back story: --- Found allocation on an M4C xDrive, placed deposit, and provided build code (FYI fellow Noobs, it is in the final Build Your Own screen -- I advise sending your CA it AND a list of the options it supposedly represents). --- My CA's opinion is that the headlights Warning raises a high likelihood of delay. He advised I remove that option and I did. --- We changed the interior to basic black and brought back my week 8 build date. --- FYI, am currently getting all the packages except M Driver's and none of them appear to be a current issue. [Fingers crossed.]

I heard that if you order any car regardless of options you still end up waiting for months because of stop sales.

Why would remove one of the best options just to hurry up your build by a few weeks?? If you're ordering the car why not just get what you want?? No way I'd remove laser lights for my build.

It doesn't make sense to drop shit that you really want, from your order. Because these are the delays, as of today. Once you get into 150 status, you have another 3 weeks, or more, until the car goes into exterior body assembly, and everything could have changed by then.
The shit you ordered, that they said was good, could now be short, and the stuff that you now cant add, may be cleared to add. Just order it like you want it, and wait. It's worth it. I ordered everything except the carbon buckets, and I'm completely satisfied. I thought the carbon ceramic brakes were going to hold me up, but by the time my car was built, they were good to go.

Update on the laser headlights
I was really set on getting them until I read in multiple posts/threads that most of the functionality is neutered in the U.S. due to obsolete fed regs here.
Another factor in my decision, I will usually follow the advice of an apparently competent CA when they argue to remove an option (i.e., cut their commission).

Also no such thing as a competent SA , Car buying 101. If I were you , add the lights back, it's so much more than function. Visually they are on another level , also resale is the biggest factor. As far as functionality , you can code in the EU specs which is simple. Right now full leather , Laser lights , bucket seats , and carbon interior are the most important options for resale. |

I think it's pretty early in the life cycle to predict what will actually impact resale far down the road. It certainly won't impact it enough to order something you aren't excited about. I don't think non enthusiasts (the vast majority of owners) are quite as particular.

Build killer options - screw that.
Spec what you want and live with no regrets. I figured if I'm waiting, then I may as well wait and get exactly what I want. And there are plenty of people with normal options that are delayed at QC, or at port, etc.. It's a coin flip at this point. My G80 M3 has individual exterior/individual interior (Ivory full is considered individual apparently), carbon bucket seats, laserlights, 360 cameras, and I ordered the car October 11th and am receiving it February 1st/2nd in a few days. Less than 4 months from order to delivery on an individual order. I'm not trying to masquerade my experience as fact and as something you'll definitively experience, but my point is this - you'll never know. I didn't expect my car until April or so, and it's already here. I know times have changed since then, but the point still stands - try your luck, and if you can wait - then I think it's always worth waiting for something you really want. This, of course, is if you can wait and have no immediate needs for a car. If your lease is up or whatever, you can always rent a car for a month or two while you wait.

I haven't gotten any real benefit from the laser lights since they seem to be a neutered version in the USA but they do look amazing. Huge difference visually over stock. I think lights are one of those things that can date a car very quickly when there is a newer version with an LCI or what ever. They make the front end much newer looking. Crazy I know for a new car to look newer than and equally new car, but they are 'next gen'
I would have left them in the order. By the time they build the car you could be delayed by something else anyway. If the car gets a stop sale for something else you may as well wait for the lights |
