Front bumper skid plate installed

Ever since I lowered my car I have been very careful backing out of my steep driveway. I usually back out an angle and it prevents from scraping. Luckily I haven't scraped my bumper yet, but it's imminent. I was recommended by a friend, who is also a member here (Patton250) to get a skid plate made by AutoMods. If you're lowered, I highly recommend this, it'll give you an ease of mind.

The kit comes with everything you need from prepping the surface to installing it.

Pros:

- The skid plate contours to the shape of the bumper. Don't recommend the cheap generic crap from Amazon.
- Screws and clips are exposed if you ever want to remove your bumper, you don't need to remove the skid plate.
- Awesome lifetime warranty. Covers if it breaks, comes loose, or gets scraped enough that you are able to go through the material they'll replace it.
- Excellent customer service.

Cons:

None yet.

$599. For a peace of mind, it's worth it.

I'd get oil cooler protection before ever thinking about protecting the underside of the bumper cover, but that's just me. Looks well designed though.

I agree Mo. 599 seems outrageous for plastic taped on scrap guards. Bumper respray cost is real close to that. Id buy one at 200-300 though.

It's not just a simple respray though. When you scrape your bumper the paint doesn't just come off cleanly, it makes marks and gouges which need to be smoothend out before a respray. If you damage it enough, you might be looking at a new bumper or you can leave it alone since no one will see. The product is not for everyone, I originally didn't need it when I was at stock ride height, but since I was lowered it was a necessity for me at least. It's kinda like PPF you can live without it, but some like to preserve that factory finish.

You have a valid point.

It happened on the freeway. It looked like a broken piece of particle board, like from the back of a cheap Ikea dresser, about the shape of a football, came bouncing in front of my car. I thought it went under the car... not so much. Knife-edged into my bumper/splitter.

For $250 more, I went with the the Turner Motorsport skid plate which helps protect the oil cooler.

I added some acexxon scrape protector strips the front of the bumper.

I went with the Fall line oil cooler cover. Sometimes just having the piece of mind is worth paying the money.

Hard to tell, but does it protect the bumper?

Also not sure how I feel about the oil cooler cover, you still have large openings. What am I missing?

I think people are expecting the problem to be a stone bouncing off the pavement and piercing the oil cooler. The angle required by that would be one and a million. What these do is deflect objects like curbs sticks and other debris in the roadway that may have a lucky shot at damaging the fins or piercing the cooler. I have marks in mine as one of the animals I hit rolled under the car and got stuck under the oil cooler on the jacking point. An oil cooler guard will allow you to slide over the object.
