New M3C Completely Dead

Hey guys like the title says had the car out Sunday was ok car has 350 miles on it went out today to take it out and the key fob wouldnt open the doors got the other key same thing and couldnt use comfort access to gain entry.

Used the physical key and gained entry and no interior lights no red alarm light on the front windshield and the car wont start.

Im assuming there has to be a module problem anybody have any insight??

Also the car is in the garage how can I get it towed if the car wont start and cant put the car into neutral and release the parking brake??

Appreciate any feedback guys im obv calling BMW tmrrw but wanted to get some ideas on here cheers

That sucks.

The ZF gearbox has a mechanical park release located on the left side. An arm with a screw in it. Screw it in until it releases the parking lock.

No idea how you release the parking brake with the electric e brake. Probably a wheels off job.

Battery connection ok?

Hope you get it resolved soon.

That’s terrible. This is my first post on this forum and I’m sorry that it begins with reading depressing news about a fellow G80 owners car. I’m looking forward to knowing what it is. At least you’re at home.Sorry man.

That must be a dead battery, I would have thought. Do you have a multimeter to test whether the battery still has a charge? Could be:
- battery is dead (either failed prematurely or something drained it)
- connection came loose and just needs to be reattached
- alternator is screwed in some way, which allowed the battery to drain

I would guess it is 1 and something drained the battery (ignition was left on or something, although they usually turn themselves off after awhile to prevent this happening). Once the battery is dead you really should just get a new one, they're never the same after they go completely dead, even if they can be jumped and recharged

Bummer this happened to you. Hope it gets resolved quickly!

Looking forward to the diagnosis. Sounds like a battery as mentioned above but with the amount of electronics in this generation of car who knows…

Sorry to hear this buddy, I had the same issue with a brand new 420i... turned out to be one of the main electrical boards had died. Took BMW 4 week to get the parts to fix, to their credit they gave me a decent loaner.

Hope it is something simple!

This is generally true, but our cars have a lithium battery (or so I have read) not the old lead acid ones, so this may not still be the case. Still - it would be worth a try (to ask for a new one) if it did get run down to zip.

In a car this new, it's not worth trying to diagnose and fix yourself, just have them come get it and trust that they will take care of it, hopefully as a high priority (since it is so new). Best of luck to you!

Yes, it sucks. But things like this do happen, and the car should be fine.

Not that you would need it on a new car, but a battery tender is a very small investment to prevent issues like this if you're ever storing your car for long periods of time in the future.

Just make sure you get one specifically for lithium ion batteries!

They're back to AGM on the G8x.

Edit: It's not AGM.

Mine has the lithium ion as I just pulled the cover yesterday and looked. It's a massive battery.

Fyi this trans does not have a screw release. It's been a few years now since they had a manual screw release for neutral. Now you have to use a special tool or jam a 10mm or equivalent Allen key in there and pull the arm down to keep it in neutral.

Hahaha literally just spoke with my SA theres good and bad news
The bad news is they can’t find anything wrong they ran a scan no fault codes the battery itself is actually healthy they have a safe fail mode and apparently the battery shut itself down so it wouldn’t die.

So the food news is they have let the car sit for almost 6 days and it starts right up so maybe a freak thing something was left on

Now my question someone mentioned here earlier should I look into a battery tender/charger since this car isn’t my daily??

Thanks guys for the concern
