G80 vs. G82
I'm coming from the G20 forum as my lease is over in April of next year and am pretty sold on getting either the G80 or G82. I generally prefer coupes, however, the hips of the G80 just look too good. I was wondering why most of the people in this forum have opted for the G80 over the G82 and what differences there would be. I remember in the E9x era it was generally more coupes over the E90 M3 sedans. Seems like it's changed with more sedans over coupes. I think i'm sold on the Isle of Mans Green as my G20 is Portimao Blue and would like to switch it up. I know the green looks great on the G80 but I'd like to see how it looks on the G82. If anyone got pics, post em!

If there was an easy answer to this question then BMW would just make that specific model. There isn't which is why they give us choices. It's really up to you what you like best. I could tell you what I like but it's really irrelevant.

This will not end well lol
Short answer. Do you need the backseat or not? I do not need the backseat but i chose the M3. Only you will know what you like/want better. |

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION AND IN NO WAY AM I TRASHING ANOTHER’S CHOICE: That being said, I have a G80. I needed 4 doors as I have 2 little kids so there was never any consideration given to the G82. Regardless of my need for 4 doors, I still would have chosen a G80 over a G82 as I think the G80 looks way better than the G82. I feel the proportions and style of the car is better suited to the sedan. The rear end on the G80 is also wider giving it more road presence. Lastly, although neither of them are overly low, the G82 looks like a 4x4 compared to a G80 (although that can be fixed aftermarket). The G82 is still a fantastic car; all depends what YOU want. Again, just MY opinion. |

My cross-shop was a Porsche 911. And not a 3-series. So the choice was obvious for me.

I was also looking at a 911, too. If I spec one out the way I want it, I'd be looking at an insane wait compared to the G82. The used market for 911s right now is just not reasonable at all right now, either.

In my opinion only, Although, i prefer coupes since my back seat will carry my gym bag or collect dust, sit in both cars and see which one you like. The Los Angeles International Auto show is next month and both cars will be on display. |

If you don’t need the back seats, the longer doors of the M4 means a bigger aperture. I’ve never been a fan of the B-pillar placement of most 4-door cars. Door window is also frameless, the aesthetics of which I also enjoy.
Otherwise, the G80 AWD or xDrive are unique birds on the market and represent excellent value. |

Have never been a 4 door sedan fan. Got station wagons or later went to SUV's when I need something with 4 doors.
Most of my personal rides from my very first car have had 2 doors & most of those from my very first car have roofs that goes down.

The only time I sit in the back seat is to clean the rear windows.
I concur that looks are totally subjective. I think the M3 looks fab, and I honestly don't know/remember why I picked the M4, especially since it's more expensive and I'm cheap. I do like having those big doors though, it does make it easier to get in and out of it. And I get a lot of compliments on the car.

The day I got my car and that is amusing story itself they gave me a choice a M3 or a M4. The M4 was actually closer to my spec I wanted ( it had everything) but I am one of the few who doesn't care for DG and wanted BG but that wasn't the tipping point for me...it was the name. I have owned the E30, E46 M3's and felt the M4 should actually be called the M3 as it is the two door decedent to the E30.
The name M4 just bugs me at some level, sort of like the X3M etc. They are just too many of them. It's a me thing but I decided to go M3 for the rear flare, color and name. But I like the M4, it just should have been the M3. |
