Dog owners: Rear seat cover?

For all you dog owners out there, do you have a recommendation for a rear seat cover that fits well on the G80? The one I use in my XC90 is not a good fit.

Dog (5 month old pup) in question:

Is putting him in the trunk out of the question?

I've put mine in the trunk of other cars and he's perfectly happy back there.

I don't even allow mine in the trunk of the G80 now. I'd rather put him in an Uber

Trunk? Umm no. Dogs are family. You wouldn’t put your kid in the trunk would you?

I’ve had dogs in all my cars. We usually transport ours in a hammock style cover which covers up the rear seats and footwells. I don’t know if there’s a specific one for g80 but there are many general purpose ones that should work. Get one that’s larger in width so you can cover the top of the doors as well.

cute pup @par_m3

I think I'll have to order a few hammock style covers and see how they do. Just have to make sure I have full seat belt access so I can buckle him in. Nothing better than taking your best friend out with you in a nice drive, IMO. When we go out to hike in the mountains I want to take the M3 on those roads, not my Volvo!

He does really well in the car, even on semi-spirited drives. Used to take him out in my Shelby all the time, buckled in the front seat with a cover. Nice thing with the M3 is now I can bring my wife along comfortably as well… maybe I'll just make her sit in the back and let him sit up front.

I literally had this delivered yesterday, I'm going to try and fit it today. I had my dog in the front seat and he threw up because race car. Luckily I had puppy pads all over the place lol.

Here's the one I bought, haven't set it up yet, but It's known to fit in a G20, which is a similar back seat

Awesome, I'll give that one a try. Didn't even think to check the G20 forums.

When I was originally seeking to order an M3, we were planning to selectively put our dogs in its backseat. Now that I have an M4 inbound instead, they'll be riding exclusively in our Wrangler.

They did enjoy the X5, though!

Yes, our Labs loved the X5 as well. Our current lab would primarily ride on my wife's suv (especially for any long journey) but its convenient to be able to take her to the vet or somewhere local in the M3. M4 would be definitely tougher.

This is one of the things I'm debating with a new G80. I have a hammock style cover that I use for my current car. But will I put the dog in my shiny new car? Not sure about that!

Btw, none of the solutions I've seen are terribly safe for the dog or for ourselves in case of an accident.

Seems like the safest possible option for a dog is an appropriately sized Gunner kennel. But that would require quite a large vehicle if you have a big dog or multiple dogs.

Next best option would be a crash certified harness, like the Allsafe. The harness is the route I take with my dog.

This sadly true. We used to belt one of our labs in using a special harness but he actually chewed half-way through the webbing on the seat belt!!

One of my buddies is planning to purchase a Defender that has the custom pet carrying pack with ramps.

That’s why we got harnesses for them and used campions and the X5’s cargo tie-down brackets. Another advantage of utilizing the cargo area, with the rear seat up, is it limits the dogs’ space, not unlike a kennel, should they become airborne. (A cargo grate would be even better, if one existed that fit the X5 well.)

There’s no way I’m putting any dog in a G80. If you can afford this car then you can afford a truck also. Take your dog in the truck.

Nice to see so many people with the same mentality. I love involving my dog in everything I do, and that includes driving around in the M3.

Here's a pic of my friends dog in his C7Z.

I got one of those dog seat covers in Home Goods. It's almost like a sling. Thick plastic lining so nails don't affect the seats. Has clips that go around all the head rests. Check places like TJ Max and Home Goods. Trust the woman, it cost me like $20 or less and the thing has held up so good with TWO pit bulls in both of my M's…
