i had wireless charging in my x5 and m550i. Wireless charging is terrible to put it nicely. Overheating, slow charging, tight fit with a case and bigger phone to name a few. The USB C charging is much better and quicker. Trust me, you're not missing anything

A dealership didn't let you test drive the car? Sounds a bit ...mean

I worked as a new car porter at a Honda dealership when I was in high school. One day a woman called one of the salespersons to complain that the car she just bought didn't have AC even through she thought it did. The salesperson told her….open all your windows and drive real fast.

So, consider yourself lucky it only happened to you regarding wireless charging. It's a good lesson not to rely on the dealership for product information.

In the case of this particular feature…it was part of the executive package on the 2021s. It was then removed completely for 2022. I did test drive a 2021 M4 coupe before ordering a 2022 G83. So, depending on which model year they had available for a test drive, not sure that would have helped.

Would you have even noticed wireless charging on a test drive? I have it and it sucks , don't use it at all.

Maybe OP meant he wanted to test drive the wireless charger instead of the car. That's just preposterous if the sales guy wouldn't let him test drive that. I would demand an M5 with an equal trade. Talk to BMW NA. They can make it happen.

Phone in the Z4 shut down with an overheat last summer, been charging on the USB port since. No loss not having it in the M4C

Just to throw in one more vote - as others have said the wireless charging it completely worthless and I stopped using it the first week I had the car. The design needs to be reworked by BMW. Certainly not worth trying to return the car over but maybe if you're lucky you could get a free something from the dealer if they really promised it to you. Maybe a free detailing or something

And as for not being allowed to test drive it, yes, kind of odd, but my parents who were on their 3rd new Corvette weren't allowed to test drive one even though they drove into the dealer in one and said they wanted to buy one.

Another vote for who cares. The charger is terrible. Wouldn't use it if I had it. Get the dealer to give you M performance floor mats or under door LED lights or something for your troubles and enjoy the car!

The wireless charging wasn't very good anyways. From my understanding some features got cut due to the chip shortage. Paying over MSRP sucks though.

+1000 to this. I used it a few times when I first got my G82, but wasn't worth it for the reasons above. I use CarPlay and rarely see any battery gain even on a long drive. I also hated that my phone was burning hot after removing it from the charger and that can't be good news for the phone/battery.

Lastly, I know it's frowned upon, but I'm often stuck at red lights/traffic. I like to check my phone here and there when stopped, and it's not very convenient to do when my phone is trapped under the armrest. Much easier when it's plugged into the USB-C.

My mom's RX has the wireless charging out in the open (for us, it would be like the area behind the center cupholders). Much more convenient IMO and would probably decrease the heating issue we have.

If wireless charging was an indispensible option, OP should have verified the window sticker rather than demanding a test drive.

Manufacturers are making several changes across their portfolio for each MY and a typical sales manager cannot keep a track of everything.

Good luck on a buyback.

the dealer would looooove to take that car back. someone else will pay more than you did and be glad that it didn't come with wireless charging. That doesn't even work most of the time when you have a nice phone case.

M8 had a $250 credit on the window sticker for not having wireless charging. No such credit on M4C.

I have a 21 and an iphone 12.
Works fine for me.

I will say the rubber mat is discolored from the heat at the charging spot though, but my phone hasn't overheated .

The price of the executive package decreased by the price of the laser lights (now a standalone option) and an additional $250 for no wireless charging for 2022. An additional credit isn't expected
