Wanted... Performance shops

Are there any GOOD performance shops located near Dallas/Ft.Worth that are not Cedar Performance, Rk Autowerks... That have a good reputation with the S58's? It's like trying to find a treasure in the ocean. Lots os shops who claim they're great, but when you start talking about custom tunes and wanting to use a specific tuner, they all go radio silent. Any recommendations appreciated.

Shocked no one knows of any shops around here other than the two I mentioned. This is supposed to be the car mod Mecca her within the greater Dallas/Ft.Worth area, but apparently not for the new BMW's.

I’m in the Austin area, and admittedly not in the tuning scene. More track focused which is all about suspension and brakes, and lastly power. I may be completely wrong about this but I haven’t heard, at least in the track community, that there are any great tuners for these engines in the central Texas area. Have you tried calling some of the BMW focused motorsports shops in your area to see who’d they’d recommend?

I appreciate your reply to my thread... Yeah. there are a couple of pretty good shops local to me, but they have their own ideologies on what is the "formula" for a well sorted car. I don't begrudge their thought processes, however, it's my car, and my money, I want it done a certain way. I've modded more than 20 cars and I've worked with some amazing shops, just hard finding a dedicated BMW shop that is worth their salt.

We do have great suspension shop local to me.. Texas Track Works, and they can do great things with the suspension, regardless whether you want a track set or a street setup. I'll eventually find the shop that'll work with me, but it's going to take some research on my part.

I apologize, I thought I replied to you.... reached out to them regarding my car, but their "tuner" never definitievely gave an answer on whether or not they'd work with Paul Johnson on tuning my car.

The only thing I'm not flexible on is using him as my tuner. I think he has this G8X platform dialed in. Thanks for your post, I appreciate it.

Also, I spoke to a few people with tuned F80s at COTA and they all used Art of Assembly. Roman is the name of the guy. I have no experience with him but have heard good things about his work.

lol, okay then. Have you watched any of phd racing’s videos? He just had a custom tune on his g87. For a very different purpose but he’s making 672 but I believe on ms 109 with race downpipe and exhaust.

I know I know, I sound unreasonable to deal with... I assure you, I'm easy to get along with as long as I'm told what's going on as the car is being worked on. I also don't like being lied to about timelines that are a moving target... Just tell me a date, and I'll leave you alone, but don't BS me to buy more time, that's all I ask.

Anyway, I really appreciate your engagement, and I'll definitely check that video out.

Truly, my biggest challenge currently is just finding a shop that's not going to dump my car on their back lot, with no ECU in it for 2 weeks... we get shitty weather here, and I don't want my car left outside period!

Oh I didn’t mean for it to sound dismissive or all raised eye brows. Just a small world acknowledgment and the fact that you didn’t have a great interaction with him is an additional piece of info to help form my opinion. Anyway, good luck and let me know what you decide to go with and why etc if you feel inclined. Thanks!

Anyone know of a good shop in the Carrollton/Lewisville area? I just need to get my new brake pads installed, so I just need someone who won't screw something up.

Good luck finding a decent shop.... wish I could offer some assistance on a recommendation, but I can't.

Unfortunately, I have not... I reached out to an old shop I used back when I had my C7 Corvette, and they seemed receptive to doing my car, but still haven't given me a price. They have branched out to other platforms, but still iffy on getting the ECU to FEMTO, and working with Paul Johnson on the tune.

It's incredibly frustrating knowing there are great shops out there, but getting in touch with them is sometimes difficult simply based on not knowing who they are. I'll keep searching until I find one that is on the same page as me when to comes to processes and timelines....as well as accurate pricing upfront!!!!

Maybe drive out of state for a tune?

Ya... I would say if you wanted to end up on a dyno, I'd probably just take a road trip to FL and make a mini vacation out of it. When I lived in AZ we did this all the time for Cali cause PHX could be hit/miss on certain performance shops for certain platforms. Hell, even after I was tuned in PHX on my STI I had to get some revisions after driving back up north since I lived at 5500 elevation.
